Career and Professional Life
Professionally, Kerry Coombs is a famous football coach. At present, he works as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State University. He started this job in the year 2020. Before this, he worked as an assistant coach for the National Football League’s (NFL) Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2019.
At the time of attending the University of Dayton, he was a member of the university’s 1980 Division III National Championship team. After his college graduation, he worked as an assistant coach at two high schools located in the Cincinnati area. Then in the year 1989, he became the head coach at Loveland High School in Loveland, Ohio.
After two years, he became the head coach at Colerain High School in Cincinnati. This is where he had his high school graduation. The Colerain Cardinals football team played ten state playoffs in 16 seasons under Coombs’ leadership. This also includes five state semifinal berths.
In the year 2004, this team went undefeated with scores of 15–0. Subsequently, the Colerain Cardinals football team won the Division I state championship. Under his coachmanship, the Colerain Cardinals football team won seven consecutive Greater Miami Conference championships. These were from the years 2000 to 2006.

2007 Onwards
Similarly, in the year 2007, he worked at the University of Cincinnati. He became the team’s defensive backs coach after Brian Kelly asked him to join. Two years later, they promoted him to associate head coach. Therefore, his role/responsibility was being the team’s associate head coach, defensive backs coach, as well as special teams coordinator.
Fast forward to 2012, he became the defensive backs coach at Ohio State University. Then in 2017, he received a promotion to assistant coordinator, of defense – that was done by the Ohio State Head Coach, Urban Meyer. A year later, he became a part of the staff of coach Mike Vrabel. This time, he became a secondary coach (defensive backs) for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League (NFL).
Recently on 20 January 2020, he announced that he was returning to Ohio State to fill the position of defensive coordinator and secondary coach. After the 2020 season, Greg Mattison – the co-defensive coordinator retired. Following this, he filled the newly vacant position as the sole defensive coordinator. His previous position as secondary coach was filled by Matt Barnes.
