Memphis

Dillingham joined the Tigers as a graduate assistant in 2016 after Norvell was appointed head coach of Memphis. Since the team lacked a designated quarterbacks coach for 2016, Dillingham served as the position’s de facto head coach. Dillingham was appointed the official quarterback’s coach for Memphis in 2016 and added tight ends coach to his responsibilities for 2017. This was after Tigers offensive coordinator Chip Long left to become the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame.

For the 2018 campaign, Dillingham was promoted to offensive coordinator after Long’s replacement Darrell Dickey departed for Texas A&M. Memphis had consecutive top-5 college football offenses in 2017 and 2018 (Memphis). Dillingham was ranked as the top recruiter in the conference while a student at Memphis by the 247 Recruiter rankings.

Auburn

Gus Malzahn hired Dillingham to take Chip Lindsey’s place as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn in 2019. While at Auburn, he led the league’s most-improved offense and assisted Bo Nix in winning the SEC Rookie of the Year award. He played for the Tigers for one season, during which time they went 9-3 and averaged 33.2 points per game. During Dillingham’s tenure as OC, Auburn also attained its highest recruiting ranking in the era of the 247 recruiting rankings.

Florida State

Dillingham left Auburn to join Florida State as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, taking Kendal Briles’ place as Florida State’s head coach after Norvell left Memphis to become the next head coach at Florida State.

Oregon

Dillingham was appointed by head coach Dan Lanning to the position of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Oregon on December 17, 2021.

Arizona State

Dillingham succeeded Herm Edwards as the 26th head coach of Arizona State University on November 27, 2022. He holds this position as the first native Arizonan and former Sun Devil to do so.
