Keith Sweat is a popular multi-talented singer, songwriter, and record producer from the United States. Keith Sweat is best known for hit songs that include “Nobody,” “I Want Her,” and “Make It Last Forever.” Meanwhile, he is also credited as being one of the first performers in the musical genre called New Jack Swing which was popular in the late 1980s.

Professional Career

After completing his graduation, Keith worked for a brief period as a successful brokerage assistant in a Wall Street firm. Despite a successful career on Wall Street, he chose to pursue his passion for music by writing songs and submitting them to various record labels.

He began his musical career as a member of the Harlem-based band ‘Jamilah’ in 1975. Moreover, he performed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as the band’s lead singer.

Began solo career

He left ‘Jamilah’ in 1984 to pursue a solo career, and subsequently sang at various New York nightclubs. Later, he was quickly noticed and allowed to record an independent album for ‘Stadium Records’. He recorded “My Mind Is Made Up” for ‘Stadium Records’ and he was also credited as the co-writer and co-producer of “You Are the One for Me.”

His debut solo album “Make It Last Forever” was released on November 25, 1987. It was a huge success, with “I Want Her” being the album’s biggest hit. He topped the charts again in 1990 with his second album, “I’ll Give All My Love to You,” which increased his fan base.

His third album, “Keep It Comin,” was released in 1991 and included the song ‘Why Me Baby’ and the title track. His fourth studio album, ‘Get Up on It,’ was released in 1994. ‘How Do You Like It,’ the title track, and ‘When I Give My Love’ were among the album’s singles. His self-titled album was released on June 25, 1996, and featured the hit singles “Twisted” and “Nobody.” The single ‘Twisted’ was one of the year’s biggest hits.

In the year 1998, he released his sixth album “Still in the Game.” The album song ‘Come and Get with Me’ peaked on the U.S. charts. After a year, he released the song ‘I’m Not Ready,’ which was an instant hit.

By the year 2000, his fame had begun to fade, and his albums were no longer topping the charts. By the time he released his seventh album, “Didn’t See Me Coming,” his singles were struggling to even crack the top forty.

2002 to present career

On August 13, 2002, his eighth studio album “Rebirth” was released. When compared to his previous albums, the album did not perform well and saw a significant drop in sales. His ninth studio album, titled “Just Me,” was released in 2008. It was a moderate success, and its first single ‘Love You Better’ was played on the ‘Urban Radio Station’ a year before the album’s release. Kedar Records released his tenth studio album titled ‘Ridin Solo’ on June 22, 2010.

Sweat also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show called “The Sweat Hotel,” which is produced and distributed to urban adult contemporary and classic soul radio stations across the United States by Premiere Networks, a subsidiary of iHeartMedia, Inc.
