Moving on to her academics, she completed her graduation B.S. in Broadcast Journalism and Marketing from Syracuse University. Additionally, she has also earned a degree of B.S in Meteorology from the State University of New York.
Professional Career
In January 2003, Kathy Orr started her career with the KYW-TV as the chief meteorologist. She made her debut on the same night as Marc Howard, who had been an anchor on WPVI, the ABC O&O in Philadelphia. Afterward, she worked for WCAU-TV where she worked as a weekend Meteorologist.
When John Bolaris left WCAU, she was reportedly offered the position of chief meteorologist, but she declined because KYW-TV offered her a higher salary. Glenn Schwartz eventually accepted the offer from WCAU.
Orr is credited with coming up with the name “Live Mega Doppler 3” for their radar shortly after joining the station. She was also the first to create a summer series focusing on the Jersey Shore. “Orr at the Shore” aired on Thursdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day for over a decade.

In August of 2011, it was announced that Orr would only be handling the 10 p.m. weather on the CW Philly 57 and the 11 p.m. weather on CBS3. She wanted to spend more time with her family, so she only handled the weather at 10 p.m. on CBS3. Kate Bilo, a morning meteorologist, filled Orr’s vacancy between 5 and 6 p.m. When new management took over at CBS3, she and sports director Beasley Reece were fired.
Orr announced on 94.1 WIP radio on September 13, 2015, that she would be returning to full-time at FOX 29 and would now be doing afternoon and evening shows at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m.

Kathy Orr, the first female meteorologist in the Philadelphia television market. In 1999, she was named the Delaware County Times’ “Rookie of the Year.” For her forecasting and reporting, Orr received eight Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards as Best Weathercaster.
She received top honours from the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association. In Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly” issue, she was also named Best Weathercaster. In 2013, she was inducted into the Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers’ “Hall of Fame.”
