Jorge Masvidal is America’s Championship Winner in Mixed Martial Arts. Jorge Masvidal is ranked number eleven in the official UFC welterweight rankings as of March 2019. Currently, he will be competing in the UFC’s Welterweight Division.
Early Life and Education
As of now, Jorge’s age is 39 years old. He was born on 12th November 1984 in his birthplace, Miami, Florida, United States. His father is Jorge Masvidal Sr. When he was young, his father left Cuba in a self-made raft and ended up in the Virgin Islands. Here in the US, his father was later imprisoned for more than twenty years for manslaughter and drug trafficking.
As a teenager, Jorge competed in wrestling at St. Brendan High School, Miami-Dade County, Florida. He did not complete his education and instead began training in mixed martial arts. Likewise, he is an American nationality. Furthermore, he belongs to the Cuban and Peruvian ethnicity.

Talking about Jorge’s educational history, he has competed in wrestling at St. Brendan High School. However, he failed to stay eligible because of his grades. Then after he began training in mixed martial arts.
Jorge Masvidal – Professional Life
In April 2003, he won kickboxing at Fast a Fearless event. His most high-profile victory event came in the main event of the Absolute Fighting Championships XII event in April 2005 defeating the current UFC competitor. In early 2011 he faced Billy Evangelista at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson and won the fight.
Moreover, he faced Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal on 17th December 2011. But he lost the fight via unanimous decision.

Later, he was brought over to the UFC and made his debut against Tim Means on 20th April 2013 at UFC on Fox 7 where he won the fight via unanimous decision. He faced Rustam Khabilov on 6th November 2016 but lost the back-and-forth fight. However, they did earn Masvidal his first Fight of the Night. On 26th July 2014, he faced Daron Cruickshank and won the fight. After that, he faces James Krause and won the fight.
On 12th July 2015, he faced Cezar Ferreira in a welterweight bout at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale where he won the fight knockout in the first round, also earning a Performance of the Night bonus. Jorge won the fight by technical knockout doctor stoppage between rounds three and four when the cage-side physician determined a cut over Diaz’s right eye rendered him unable to continue.
2016-present
Likewise, he faced Lorenz Larkin on May 29, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 88. Unfortunately, he lost the back-and-forth fight through the split decision.
On January 28, 2017, he faced Donald Cerrone at UFC on Fox 23. He withdrew Cerrone and almost finished the fight in the last seconds of the first round, and ultimately won the fight through TKO in the second round after scoring another knockdown. The win even received Masvidal his second Performance of the Night bonus.
On May 13, 2017, he faced off against Demian Maia at UFC 211 but lost the fight via split decision. Likewise, he faced Ben Askren on July 6, 2019, at UFC 239. He even won the fight through a flying knee 5 seconds into the first round. This win made him earn the Performance of the Night award and the 2019 Knockout of the Year from various MMA media outlets. Consequently, he signed a new, eight-fight contract with the UFC.
