Early Life and Childhood

Jonathan McReynolds was born Jonathan Caleb McReynolds on September 17, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. His age is currently 34 years old. However, there are no details about his parents and other family members. He was raised by a single mother with the love and support of his family, fellow believers, and his pastor at the New Original Church of God in Christ.

Furthermore, he was a well-known example of a very premature child; he began playing the drums at the age of five, the piano at eight, and performed as a church musician every week. To put it simply, he was an unwilling singer.

He eventually began to come out of his shell in high school and started performing in front of people rather than just singing in his living room. Likewise, he holds American nationality and follows Christianity as his religion. He is of black ethnic background. According to his birth date, he was born under the sun sign Virgo.

Education

He went to Whitney Young Magnet High School, where he not only gained recognition for his musical abilities but also gained experience in recording and producing music by participating in the school’s podcast program. Those abilities would be useful in college as he recorded his first songs in his dorm room, including his first viral hit “No Gray.”

Later, he graduated from Columbia College with a bachelor’s in music and from Moody Theological Seminary with a master’s in Biblical studies in 2015.

Career and Professional Life

Jonathan is a professional American musician. His musical career began in 2012 with the release of Life Music by Light Records and Entertainment One Music on September 25, 2012. This was his first album to reach the Billboard charts, and it debuted at No. 98 on the Billboard 200, No. 3 for Gospel Albums, and No. 23 for Independent Albums. His song “No Gray” became a viral hit, earning him fans in India Arie and Nicki Minaj as well as TV appearances on BET’s Celebration of Gospel.

Additionally, the second album by McReynolds, Life Music: Stage Two, received three nominations for Grammy Awards. With Chantae Cann, Arie had his first top-five gospel single with “Gotta Have You.” For the Journal of Gospel Music, Bob Marovich gave the album five stars and stated that “Life Music, Stage Two is the musical manifestation of his honest and spiritually grounded approach to dealing with the events of daily life.” On his EP Sessions (2016), McReynolds collaborated with Tweet, another well-known R&B artist. This unexpected, unplanned release quickly rose to the top of the iTunes Christian chart.

With his book “Make Room: Finding Where Faith Fits,” which he published in the fall of 2018, McReynolds narrowly missed making the bestseller list.

On the ninth season of BET’s Sunday Best, which premiered in June 2019, Jonathan served as a judge alongside Kirk Franklin, Kelly Price, and Erica Campbell. He released the EP People in 2020, which included “Moving On,” the 2021 Grammy Award winner for Best Gospel Performance/Song.

A hugely popular BET+ movie called “Favorite Son” was released not long after the Grammy victory. McReynolds co-starred with Rotimi, Serayah, and Loren Lott in his first acting role. McReynolds’ “Grace” garnered his fourth consecutive No. 1 Gospel Airplay position in August 2021.
