Trainee period

In September 2008, Johnny Suh was accepted by SM Entertainment and became a trainee after passing an SM Global Audition in Chicago, where he sang the church’s praise song. Moreover, he got a lot of experience throughout his trainee time.

In addition, he trained alongside EXO members. He was featured in the poster shot for the SBS TV series “To the Beautiful You” in 2012. On October 15, 2012, he appeared on ABC News’ “K-POP Boot Camp” in Australia.

He was one of the fourth batch of trainees who debuted as a member of SM Rookies, SM Entertainment’s pre-debut trainee’s squad, alongside now-NCT co-members Yuta and Ten, on December 23, 2013.

In January 2014, he appeared in ‘The Celebrity magazine’ alongside Taeyong and labelmates (Red Velvet) Irene and Seulgi.  He featured alongside his now-NCT co-members in EXO’s variety show “EXO 90:2014” where they sang songs from the 1990s, in August 2014.

Further, he starred in the first season of NCT’s reality show “NCT Life” named “NCT Life in Bangkok” in April 2016, which focused on the SM Rookies and their road to their debut. From October to November 2016, he served as a fixed MC for Youku’s variety show “My SMT” alongside Super Junior’s Leeteuk and now-NCT co-members Doyoung. On October 1, 2016, he performed as an SM Dreamstation Crew DJ among other SM Entertainment artists at the music festival “Spectrum Dance Music Festival.” Later, on October 27, he performed as a DJ for Yin Duxuan, Reddy, G2, and Inlayer, who released the SM STATION song “Nightmare.”

NCT 127 debut

Johnny was announced as a member of NCT’s second sub-unit, NCT 127, on December 27, 2016. On January 6, 2017, he made his formal debut with NCT 127’s second mini-album, “NCT#127 Limitless.”

Later, on March 20, he and Jaehyun served as the fixed DJ of the SBS Power FM radio show “NCT’s Night!”; Due to busy overseas schedules, he got off the bus on January 27, 2019. On March 30, 2017, he became a regular cast member of the OnStyle beauty show “Lipstick Prince 2.”

In addition, on January 30, 2018, it was announced that all NCT members will collaborate on the project NCT 2018. He also took part in NCT 127’s “Touch” which was released on March 13. NCT 2018 Empathy, their first full-length album, was released on March 14, 2018.

In September 2020, it was stated that all NCT members would collaborate on the project NCT 2020 and would release their second full album as a whole, NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 1, on October 12, and the second part, NCT 2020 Resonance Pt. 2, on November 23.

He appeared in “Music Dance” by NCT 127 on the first album, and he made his second debut with NCT U on the A-side tune “Misfit” as well as the B-side tracks “Dancing In The Rain” and “Faded In My Last Song.”

He appeared on NCT U’s “Work It” and “Raise The Roof” songs from their second album. NCT 2020’s final single, “Resonance” was released on 4 December.
