On September 17, 1948, Jonathan Southworth Ritter aka John Ritter was born in Burbank, California, United States. In addition, he was born to his father Tex Ritter, and his mother Dorothy Fay. His father is famous as a singing cowboy star. Similarly, his mother was an actress.

He also had an older brother Thomas Matthews. Along with his brother, he was raised in Burbank, California. Regarding his education, he went to Hollywood High School.

Later, he attended the University of Southern California. In 1971, he graduated with a degree in theatre arts. Moving on, he attended the USC School of Dramatic Arts.

In the year 1970, John Ritter debuted on TV as a campus rebel in ‘Dan August’, after his graduation. Later on, in the year 1971, he finally debuted in a film titled ‘The Barefoot Executive’. From October 1972 to December 1976, he was seen playing the role of ‘Reverend Matthew Fordwick’. He played the role for 18 episodes of ‘The Waltons’. In addition, he also made guest appearances on other television series.
