John Morales is an American meteorologist, atmospheric, and environmental scientist. John Morales is currently serving as the Chief Meteorologist at NBC 6  and has worked as the first Hurricane Specialist.

Early Life

The exact birth year of John Morales is yet unknown. However, it is known that he was born on the 13th of May in New York, Schenectady, the United States. Looking at his appearance, he seems to early 50s. In addition, he holds US nationality and belongs to a mixed ethnicity.

He was raised in Puerto Rico to a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish-American father. However, he has not revealed any information about his parents publicly and has kept it in the spotlight. Likewise, he has not mentioned or shared about his siblings and seems to be the only child of his parents.

Coming towards his academics, he attended a local high in his hometown. Later, he enrolled at Cornell University based in Ithaca, New York. From there, he earned a degree in Atmospheric Science with a Bachelor of Science in 1984.

Professional Career

While he was still at the University, John Morales was hired by the National Weather Service (NWS) in the year 1984. In 1991, he was hired by the Spanish language television network Univision and founded his company Climadata Corporation (a boutique firm specializing in forensic meteorology as well as weather and climate consulting).

He also received Seals of Approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). Moreover, he received the prestigious designation of Certified Consulting Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). He also serves on the Cornell University Board of Trustees and several other nonprofit boards.

In 2003, he became the Chief Metrologist at WSCV in Miami, and in May 2009, he moved to English language television, joining NBC O&O WTVJ in Miami. He was WTVJ NBC-6’s first Hurricane Specialist. Furthermore, he is known as South Florida’s longest-tenured broadcast meteorologist, having been a reassuring television presence for nearly three decades.

He is also the founder and CEO of ClimaData Corporation, which was founded in 1991 to provide expert consulting, forensic meteorological research, and tailored weather forecasts to government, industrial, and media clients throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. In addition, he wrote the “Huracanes” a Spanish-language reference book on hurricanes, in the year 2000.

Awards

His most significant scientific honor came in 2007 when he received the AMS Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Advancement of Applied Meteorology.

He has received the National Weather Association Seal of Approval for Radio, AMS, and TV weathercasting, as well as the Broadcaster of the Year Award from both organizations.

Morales has three regional Emmy Awards, one from each station where he has worked. He recently received the Silver Circle Award, which recognizes the quality of his contributions to television. In 2017, he received the John Coleman Broadcast Award at the National Tropical Weather Conference.
