His father’s name is Donald Furcillo and his mother’s name is June Frances Nicholson. His mother was a showgirl and was of Irish, English, German, and Welsh descent whereas his father is an Italian-American showman. So, when Jack Nicholson was born, his grandparents agreed to raise him as their child, with his mother, June, pretending to be his sister. Career and Professional Life

John Joseph Nicholson got a job working for animation directors Hanna and Barbera in 1950 in California. However, he turned down an opportunity to become an animator because he wanted to pursue acting. He then started his acting career on May 5, 1955, which he considered lucky because it was the same number as his childhood idol, Joe DiMaggio.

He went on to train with the Players Ring Theater and began performing in small roles on stage and in TV soap operas. And, his film debut was in a teen drama, “The Cry Baby Killer”. He also was able to appear in two episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show” and star in the film “The Wild Ride” as a rebellious race driver.

Likewise, his career took a turn when he involved himself in writing as well as directing. And, his first taste of success as a writer was with the screenplay for the counterculture film “The Trip”.

He also co-wrote the movie “Head” and arranged the soundtrack. However, his big breakthrough as an actor came in “Easy Rider”. Here, he was able to play the role of George Hanson and it was a game-changer for him. This even helped him earn his first Oscar nomination. And, the film became a huge hit and solidified Nicholson as a hero of the counter-culture movement.

His role in “Five Easy Pieces” went on to become so defining for him. He was able to play Bobby Dupea which was a complex character, and Karen Black portrayed his girlfriend. Both of them were nominated for Academy Awards for their performances.

And, even though his performance in “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever” was mostly cut, he went on to make a mark with his role in Carnal Knowledge. There was a situation where John Joseph Nicholson got into an altercation with Robert Blank over a traffic incident in 1994. Charges were filed, but they dropped after he apologized and reached a settlement with Blank.

Then, again in 1996, there was another lawsuit involving him and Catherine Sheehan. She went on to receive a settlement but later filed another lawsuit claiming that the settlement was insufficient. The case was dismissed.
