Mayor of Braddock
Initially, John Fetterman began his career as a social worker, working with at-risk youth in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a small steel town near Pittsburgh. In 2005, he was elected as the mayor of Braddock and served in that position until 2019. During his time as mayor, he gained national attention for his efforts to revitalize Braddock and improve the lives of its residents. He focused on economic development, housing, and education, and worked to attract new businesses to the town.
As Lieutenant Governor
As Lieutenant Governor, he has continued to focus on economic development and social justice issues. He has been an advocate for criminal justice reform, marijuana legalization, and increasing the minimum wage. He has also been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and his policies.

In the general election, he defeated Republican candidate Mehmet Oz with 51% of the vote, becoming the first Democrat to win this seat since 1962. He won the Democratic nomination with 59% of the vote. Moreover, he was sworn into the Senate on January 3, 2023, he resigned from his position as lieutenant governor.
