Career
The Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario filed a lawsuit against Karahalios in late 2017 as retaliation for Karahalios’s founding of the activist groups “Axe The Carbon Tax” (which opposed the party’s support for a carbon tax) and “Take Back Our PC Party” (which contested the party’s acceptance of nominations that gave rise to allegations of electoral fraud).
When Superior Court Justice Paul Perell wrote a decision in Karahalios’ favor, he declared the case to be a “strategic lawsuit against public participation” meant to suppress dissent. Vic Fedeli, the PC Party’s interim leader, apologized to Karahalios on March 1.

On March 10, 2018, nine days later, Doug Ford was chosen to lead the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. His platform for the leadership race, along with the platforms of the other three contenders, embraced Karahalios’s “Axe the Carbon Tax” and “Take Back Our PC Party” campaigns.
In November 2018, Brian Patterson, who was supported by Doug Ford, defeated Karahalios in the race for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party presidency. Patterson then filed a lawsuit against the party, alleging that the election process was rigged, election laws were broken, and ballot boxes were allegedly stuffed.
Karahalios declared his intention to run for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada in January 2020. He had amassed the $300,000 in contributions and 3,000 endorsement signatures the party required by March 19, 2020, making him the third candidate in the race to do so. The party disqualified Karahalios from the race on March 20, 2020.
On May 20, 2020, Superior Court Justice Paul Perell ruled that Karahalios could re-enter the race. However, the party disqualified Karahalios from the race a second time due to allegations of racism in his campaign materials before Karahalios could pay the additional $100,000 fine imposed on him by the party’s leadership committee.
Jim and Belinda Karahalios announced the formation of a new political party in a video on October 12, 2020, claiming that the Ontario PC Party was beyond saving. “No party in the Ontario legislature is defending the taxpayer, defending small business, defending places of worship, promoting freedom, promoting democracy, or combating political corruption,” the statement reads.
Moreover, Elections Ontario officially registered the New Blue Party on January 7, 2021. According to Karahalios, the party would prioritize assisting small businesses, religious institutions, and taxpayers.
Jim Karahalios registered to run for Ward 5 Councilor in the 2022 municipal elections for Cambridge City Council. Karahalios came in third place with 21% of the vote, but he was unsuccessful.
