Jill Eikenberry is a popular American actress who has worked in films, stage, and television. Jill Eikenberry is best known for playing lawyer Ann Kelsey on the NBC drama “L.A. Law” (1986–94), for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 1989.

Early Life

Jill Eikenberry was born on the 21st of January 1947, in New Haven, Connecticut, the United States of America. Her full name is Jill Susan Eikenberry and is an American citizen. As of now, she is 76 years old and has a birth sign of Aquarius. She belongs to the White-American ethnicity while her religious belief is still missing.

She was born to her mother Lora while her father’s name is still missing. Moreover, she grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, and St. Joseph and Kansas City, Missouri along with her brother named Ken. Her brother served as Attorney General for the State of Washington during the mid to late 80s.

Education

Moving on to her academics, she attended Barnard College of Columbia University and studied anthropology. During her second year, she auditioned for and was accepted into the Yale School of Drama.

Professional Career

Jill Eikenberry met her future husband  Michael Tucker at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., where they appeared together in “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail” (1970) and “Moonchildren” (1971). She made her acting debut with a minor role in the 1971 television movie “They’ve Killed President Lincoln.”

Eikenberry’s primary focus during the 1970s was theater. This actress made her Broadway debut in All Over Town in 1974, and later Off-Broadway in Uncommon Women and Others, which was later filmed for American public television. Moreover, she also appeared in the 1980 musical Onward Victoria, which closed on its opening night.

Initially, she did minor roles in movies such as “Between the Lines” (1977), “A Night Full of Rain” (1978), and “An Unmarried Woman” (1978). She and Michael Tucker achieved major success in 1986 when they both landed major roles in the popular television series “L.A. Law.” Producer Steven Bochco cast them after being impressed by their performance in two episodes of his previous hit “Hill Street Blues.” For her role in the series, she won several nominations and one award.

Diagnosed with cancer and continued her acting career

Jill Eikenberry then went to Hollywood, where she discovered she had breast cancer and was diagnosed. Eventually, her cancer went into remission, and she became dedicated to her new cause, co-producing the 1989 documentary ‘Destined to Live’ for NBC.

Additionally, she appeared in episodes of “Numb3rs” in 2008, “Law & Order” in 2009, and “Body of Proof” (Episode: ‘Broken Home’) in 2011. “Suburban Girl” (2007), “Something Borrowed” (2011), “Young Adult” (2011), and “Humor Me” (2017) are some of her recent movie works.  Eikenberry co-starred with Tucker in ‘The M Spot,’ a play written by Tucker and performed at the New Jersey Repertory Company in March 2015. She recently appeared as Sharon Booth in the 2021 legal drama “The Good Fight” and returned to her Ann Kelsey role in the ABC revival pilot of L.A. Law in 2022.
