Born as Jessica Phyllis Lange, better known as Jessica Lange was born on the 20th of April 1949, in Cloquet, Minnesota, the United States. She was born as the third child among four children of Dorothy Florence (mother) and Albert John Lange (father). Her father was a teacher and traveling salesman while her mother was a housewife.

In addition, she grew up with two older sisters, Jane and Ann, and a younger brother, George. Her family relocated more than a dozen times to various towns and cities in Minnesota before settling in her hometown due to the nature of her father’s professions.

She co-starred in the 1980 film “How to Beat the High Cost of Living” with Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin. Additionally, she was offered the starring role in the film “The Postman Always Rings Twice” a year later.

In 1982, she played the title role of actress Frances Farmer in the biographical film “Frances.” After two years, she produced and starred in the topical film “Country.” She was then cast in the film “Sweet Dreams” as Patsy Cline. Later, she appeared in profile movies “Crimes of the Heart,” “Far North,” and “Everybody’s All-American” in the late 1980s.

She played key roles in the films “Losing Isaiah,” “Rob Roy” and “A Thousand Acres” in the mid-1990s. Then, she acted in the horror film “Hush” and the comedy-drama film “Cousin Bette” in 1998.

Other Movies appearances

The actress appeared in the 1999 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “Titus Andronicus.” ‘”Titus,” the film, also starred Alan Cumming and Anthony Hopkins. In 2001, she appeared in the film “Prozac Nation.” Similarly, she was cast in movies such as “Masked and Anonymous” and “Big Fish.”

She appeared in the movies “Broken Flowers” and “Don’t Come Knocking” in 2005. She appeared in Grey Gardens filmmaker Michael Suscy’s box-office success “The Vow” in 2012, alongside Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams.

In addition, she replaced Glenn Close in Charlie Stratton’s film adaption of Émile Zola’s Thérèse Raquin, titled “In Secret,” co-starring Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton, Oscar Isaac, and Matt Lucas, for which she earned good reviews.

She starred in Neil Jordan’s 2022 “Marlowe,” based on the novel The Black-Eyed Blonde: A Philip Marlowe Novel by John Banville and co-starring Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger. Similarly, she currently has two feature films in post-production.

Besides her big-screen works, she has also worked in TV series and TV movies. She starred in TV films such as “O Pioneers!” (1992), “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1995), and “Normal” (2003). She received her first Primetime Emmy Award in 2010 for her performance as Big Edie in HBO’s “Grey Gardens” (2009).

Moreover, she rose to prominence after acting in FX’s horror anthology “American Horror Story” (2011-2015, 2018), for which she received two further Primetime Emmys for the first and third seasons.

She was nominated for her ninth Emmy Award for her portrayal of Joan Crawford in the 2017 miniseries Feud. Moreover, she earned the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play in 2016 for her performance in the Broadway revival of Long Day’s Journey into Night.
