Born as Jan Lynn Stephenson, better known as Jan Stephenson is an Australian golfer. She was born on the 22nd of December 1951, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Post Career

Stephenson is one of the few female course designers, and she created an exercise video for people with arthritis. Among her numerous charitable contributions is her role as honorary chairman of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She appeared on Channel Seven’s Dancing with the Stars in the 2011 season.

Moreover, she is an ISPS Handa Ambassador for blind and disabled golf, and her Foundation (Jan Stephenson’s Crossroads Foundation) www.jscrossroads.com has purchased Tarpon Woods Golf Club in Palm Harbor. The golf course supports initiatives for blind/disabled and injured veterans, as well as first responders.

During her professional career, Stephenson has won several awards and honours. She earned the LPGA Award for Rookie of the Year in 1974, the First inductee into the LPGA Legends Tour Hall of Fame in 2014, and the LPGA Pioneer Award in 2016.

In 1983, she was inducted into the Australia Sports Hall of Fame. She was listed among the 100 Heroes in golf by Golf Magazine in 1985.

In 2000, she received the Australian Sports Medal awarded by Queen Elizabeth II. Likewise, she earned the Centenary Medal awarded by Prime Minister, John Howard in 2005. That same year, Forbes Magazine voted her one of the top 200 “Most Powerful Women in the World.” In 2007, she was inducted into the Australia Golf Hall of Fame.

Later, she apologized, saying she “did not intend to make it a racial issue.”
