Early Life

Talking about his professional career, James Bay released his debut EP, The Dark of the Morning, on 18 July 2013. The same year, he toured the UK and Ireland with an Irish band named, ‘Kodaline.’
Following it, he released his second EP, Let It Go, which was released on the 12th of May 2014. His second EP debuted in the top 10 iTunes album chart and the lead single, titled “Let It Go,” reached number 10 on the UK charts.
‘Chaos and the Calm,’ his entire debut studio album released at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, with producer Jacquire King. The studio album made its debut at number one in the UK charts and has been certified X2 platinum.
Moreover, his single “Hold Back the River” peaked at number 2 in the UK charts and was certified X3 platinum. Later in January 2015, Bay released his fourth EP, Other Sides.

For the 2016 TV series Beat Bugs, he recorded a cover of the Beatles song “Hey Bulldog.” Similarly, he recorded a cover of the Tom Petty song “King’s Highway” for the 2017 Disney/Pixar film Cars 3.
On the 18th of May 2018, he released his second studio album, Electric Light, which peaked at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and 21 on the US Billboard 200. In May 2018, Bay’s version of the album’s third single, “Us”, performed on The Voice with Alicia Keys.
Later, he released a single, “Peer Pressure”, on February 22, 2019, featuring artist Julia Michaels. His third EP, Oh My Messy Mind, was released on the 10th of May 2019, the first record of his to be immediately released on streaming.
In Nashville at the historic RCA Studio A alongside producer Dave Cobb, and collaborating with Brandon Flowers of the Killers, he began making his third studio album in the spring of 2020. Later, in July 2020, he released the single “Chew On My Heart.”

With his several successful hit songs, he has earned huge popularity and awards in his musical career. In 2015, he won the Critics’ Choice Brit Award. Similarly, he earned GQ Men of The Year for Breakthrough Solo Artist and the Q Award for Best New Artist that same year.

Again in 2016, he earned another BRIT Award for British Male Solo Artist. That year, he earned the Echo Music Prize for Best International Newcomer, the Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work, and the Q Award for Best Solo Artist.
