The Jacksons got a deal with the renowned Motown Records in 1969, and their first record, “I Want You Back,” was an instant hit. In the initial year of release, the song immediately became a Number one hit, selling over two million copies. Success followed in their subsequent releases, with hits like “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” and “I’ll Be There” reaching the top of the charts with unexpected consistency.
In no time, the Jackson 5 had become the most successful band and a household name in the world of music, having achieved the remarkable feat of releasing four consecutive number-one hits by any musical group in history.
His first solo album and his group left Motown Records
Jackie Jackson released his first solo album, ‘Jackie Jackson,’ in 1973. With his distinctive high voice, he sang with elegance on songs like “Love Don’t Want to Leave,” “Do I Owe,” and “You’re The Only One.” Even though the songs were well received by fans worldwide, they did not achieve the kind of economic and critical success that his group had.
Jackie and his group left Motown Records in 1976 and joined CBS and Epic Records. They also renamed the band The Jacksons and enlisted their brother Randy as one of the group’s performers.
He began writing and co-writing some of the group’s biggest singles during their time with Epic Records. His most popular work, “Can You Feel It,” co-written with brother Michael, became a worldwide smash in 1981. “Wondering Who,” “Walk Right Now” and “Torture” were some of the group’s biggest hits.
As his brother, the legendary Michael Jackson, began pursuing his highly successful solo singing career, Jackie’s importance as the group’s lead vocalist grew rapidly. Later works
Michael Jackson announced his intention to leave the group and go solo during the last stop of the Victory World Tour in Los Angeles in December 1984. Marlon, another brother, also left the group in early 1985. Following the departure of these two brothers, he along with Tito, and Randy started working as a session musician, vocalist, and producer all at the same time. In 1987, the remaining four brothers, Jackie, Tito, Randy, and Jermaine.
After a 16-year hiatus, his second solo album, titled ‘Be the One,’ was released by Polygram in late 1989. The album achieved moderate success, with two of his singles reaching the top of the charts and remaining there for the next 18 weeks. All of the group’s brothers reunited in 2001 to perform at Michael Jackson’s 30th-anniversary special at Madison Square Garden. He is the current CEO of Futurist Entertainment and its affiliated company JESCO Records.
Recent works
In 2007, his son Sigmund, Jr., also known as DEALZ, released a mixtape on JESCO Records. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon Jackson appeared in the reality series “The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty,” which Jackie executive produced, in 2009. The group began their first tour since 1984’s “Victory” in 2012.
