Early Life and Childhood
Iana Salenko was born on July 19, 1983, in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her age is currently 40 years old. She has five siblings, and both of her parents were restaurant employees. She began with folk dancing and gymnastics. Her father took her to a ballet school when she was 12 years old.
Salenko started to concentrate on ballet even though it was late. She was offered to enroll at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg in 1995 when she was 14 years old, but her mother felt it was too far away, so she instead studied at Vadim Pisarev’s academy in Donetsk, which is 400 miles from Kyiv. At the age of 15, started dancing with Pisarev and his Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre group.
She suffered from an eating disorder, which made her quite weak and damaged. She was fed and taken to therapy by Pisarev’s sister, the school’s director, and she recovered quickly. Iana completed her graduation in 2000. She holds both Ukrainian and German nationality. According to her birth date, she was born under the zodiac sign Cancer.
Career and Professional Life
Iana is a popular Ukrainian-German ballet dancer by profession. After graduating, Salenko joined the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre as a soloist. She transferred to Kyiv Ballet as a principal dancer two years later so that she could be nearer to her family. Salenko attended an audition for the Berlin State Ballet, where her future husband Marian Walter was based after they first met.
Director of the company Vladimir Malakhov first turned her down. Malakhov was convinced by Diana Vishneva to permit Salenko to join the business. In 2005, she was given a contract as a demi-soloist, and the following year, she was made a soloist.

Salenko rose to the position of principal dancer in 2007 after performing the lead in Cinderella. She performed in many productions as a major dancer, including Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. She played Aurora in Nacho Duato’s adaptation of Sleeping Beauty in its original form. Walter and Daniil Simkin are two of her regular lovers.
Moreover, she made her Royal Ballet debut in 2013 in the role of Don Quixote with Steven McRae. Salenko claimed that she was offered a full-time position at The Royal Ballet but turned it down so that her son could finish school in Germany.
Nevertheless, she continued to perform in other performances, including Giselle, The Two Pigeons, and the Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, as a frequent visitor. Salenko has also appeared in corporations and events as a guest artist in countries including Croatia, Russia, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Germany, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Achievements
Salenko won at the 2002 Serge Lifar International Ballet Competition, taking home both the gold medal and the Diaghilev Award.
Personal Life
Iana is a straight-gender person. As for her marital status, she is a married woman. Salenko tied the knot with Marian Walter who is also a principal at Berlin State Ballet. They met for the first time at a competition. As of now, the couple is the parents of three kids one of whose name is Marley Walter.
