Huang Xiaoming

Huang Xiaoming is a multi-talented Chinese actor, singer, businessman, and model. Huang Xiaoming first rose to fame in 2001  for playing Emperor Wu of Han in the television series “The Prince of Han Dynasty.”

Early Life

Huang Xiaoming was born in Qingdao, Shandong, China, on the 13th of November 1977. His full name in Chinese is 黄晓明 and holds Chinese nationality. He is currently 46 years old and has a birth sign of Scorpio. Similarly, he belongs to the South Asian ethnicity.

He was born to Chinese parents but he has not mentioned the name of his parents. In addition, his father was an engineer while his mother was an accountant. Similarly, he is the only child of his parents and very little is known about his childhood life.

Xiaoming attended the Beijing Film Academy (BFA), a coeducational state-run higher education institution in Beijing, China, and graduated in 2000. His classmates were actors Zhao Wei and Chen Kun, and they were known as the “Three Musketeers”.

Professional Career

Since his childhood day, Huang Xiaoming started his acting journey. In 1984, he got a chance and was chosen by a producer to star in a drama as a child actor but was dropped later because of his shy and introverted personality.

He made his acting debut in the 1998 drama “Love is Not a Game.” However, he rose to fame when he was chosen to replace Lu Yi for the leading role in “The Prince of Han Dynasty,” which earned high ratings.

He later starred in all three instalments of the series from 2001 to 2005 and this series boosted his acting career. He also portrayed Tang Bohu in the drama “Merry Wanderer Tang Bohu” (2003) and Xiao Jian in “My Fair Princess III” (2003).

Huang’s most controversial and difficult, but highly praised role was in Shanghai Bund (2007), an adaptation of the 1980 Hong Kong television series “The Bund.” played the renowned Wei Xiaobao in the 2008 film Royal Tramp, based on Louis Cha’s wuxia novel The Deer and the Cauldron.

Moreover, he made his big-screen debut in the 2006 historical film “The Banquet” as the antagonist. He has appeared in several films, including “The Sniper” (2009), “Ip Man 2” (2010), and the historical epic “Sacrifice” (2010), directed by Chen Kaige. Moreover, he returned to television in the Taiwanese idol drama “Summer’s Desire” (2011).

He also appeared in the martial arts epic The Guillotines and portrayed a younger version of Chow Yun-fat’s character in The Last Tycoon. He appeared in Peter Chan’s film “American Dreams in China” (2013). The success of the film provided a fresh thrust to Huang’s career.

In the same year, Huang portrayed the title character in the historical television drama “The Patriot Yue Fei.” His next appeared in John Woo’s “The Crossing” (2014). He co-starred with Fan Bingbing in the film adaptation of Baifa Monü Zhuan, “The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom.” In 2015, he appeared in the historical drama “Cruel Romance,” co-starring with Joe Chen.

During that same year, he starred alongside long-time friend Zhao Wei in the action comedy film “Hollywood Adventures.” He was cast in the 2017 historical wuxia drama “Nirvana in Fire 2.”

In the year 2018, he starred in the drama film “Forever Young.” He played a firefighter in the 2019 disaster film “The Bravest.” In 2020, he engaged in the historical romantic drama “Winter Begonia,” produced by Yu Zheng.

Other Works

Besides acting, he is also a shareholder of Huayi Brothers Media Corporation, with about 1.8 million shares. Likewise, he was named the Global Ambassador for Tissot in 2011.

In 2013, Xiaoming received Best Actor at the 29th Golden Rooster Awards, 15th Huabiao Awards, 12th Changchun Film Festival, and 32nd Hundred Flowers Awards. At the Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2010, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance.

Philanthropist

Huang became an ambassador to China’s Panda Protection Research Center after donating one million yuan to adopt two panda cubs in 2009. He gave 200,000 yuan in 2010 to assist victims of the Yushu earthquake in Northwest China’s Qinghai province. In 2016, he was designated China’s UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador. In the same year, the Ministry of Public Security named him as the advocate of anti-trafficking.
