Hope Solo is a retired football goalkeeper from the United States. Hope Solo is one of the top female goalkeepers of all time. And, she represented the United States women’s national team from  2000 to 2016.

On the 30th of July 1981, Hope Solo was born in Richland, Washington, the United States of America. As of now, this former American football player is 41 years old. Her birth name is Hope Amelia Stevens and holds American nationality.

Hope Solo began playing professionally for the Philadelphia Charge in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). When the WUSA folded after Hope’s first season, she went to Europe to play for the top division leagues in Sweden and France.

She played in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) for Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat, and magicJack from the year 2009 to 2011. Later, the WPS ceased operations in early 2012, this footballer played for the Seattle Sounders in the W-League.

In addition, she played for Seattle Reign FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, the top division of women’s soccer in the United States.

International Career

Talking about her international career, she has represented her country at various age levels. Moreover, she has represented her country at U16, U19, U21, and the senior level. In April 2000, she made her international team debut.

At the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she was the starting goalkeeper for her country and helped lead the U.S. national team to the semifinals having given up only two goals in four games, including three consecutive shutouts.

In addition, she helps her  U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team to bring home the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and again four years later at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

During the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Hope’s exceptional skill was highlighted especially during a quarter-final match against Brazil, which the U.S. team won on penalty kicks.

At the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she was the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. team and she helped the U.S. win the national team’s third World Cup championship since 1991.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Hope drew criticism when she called the Swedish team a ‘bunch of cowards’ after being defeated by the latter. As a result, she was suspended and her international contract was annulled by US Soccer.

In addition, she holds several U.S. goalkeeper records including appearances (202), starts (190), wins (153), shutouts (102), wins in a season (26), consecutive minutes played (1,256), and longest undefeated streak (55 games).

She has also released her autobiography, ‘Solo: A Memoir of Hope’, which was co-authored with sports journalist Ann Killion, on August 14, 2012, through ‘HarperCollins Publishers.

As a well-known American football player, she has collected several awards and recognitions. In 1997, and 1998, she was named All-American by ‘Parade’ magazine. Likewise, she was an NSCAA All-American in 2000, 2001, and 2002, and a Pac-10 Selection from 1999 to 2002.

Similarly, she was hailed Sports Spectacular Female Athlete of the Year in 2013. After the U.S. women’s football team won the 2015 World Cup, she along with her team was honored by former President Barack Obama at the White House.

This former American footballer player was arrested during the time of the two misdemeanor counts and was made guilty of the assault in the 4th degree.
She was a part of controversy during her time with her nation’s team after controversial comments during the 2016 Olympics, and she later filed a lawsuit against U.S. Soccer over unequal payment for male and female players.
