Greg Monroe’s professional career began when the Detroit Pistons selected him with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft. On July 6, 2010, he went on to sign with the group. He made his NBA debut on October 30, 2010, against the Chicago Bulls, coming off the bench to register 2 points and 3 rebounds in 7 minutes. Additionally, he started the first game of his career on December 10th against the Minnesota Timberwolves and finished with eight points, fifteen rebounds, and a block in 35 minutes of play.

On February 23, 2011, he played his best game of the year against the Indiana Pacers, scoring 27 points and pulling down 12 rebounds on 11-17 shooting. In the 2011–2012 season, he participated in and started each of Detroit’s 66 games. On February 8, 2012, Greg was chosen to participate in the NBA All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge. In the 2013–2014 season, Monroe notched 1,000+ points and 600+ rebounds for the third season in a row.

On 9 July 2015, he agreed to a three-year, $50 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, and on October 28, 2015, he made his team debut. In a 116-101 loss to the Indiana Pacers on January 24, 2018, he recorded a season-high 17 rebounds in addition to 16 points. He was released from the Suns on February 1st, 2018. The Boston Celtics acquired him on February 8th, 2018. On April 6, 2018, in a 111-104 victory over the Chicago Bulls, he recorded his second triple-double of his career with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists while playing off the bench.
