He is the son of Joan Pique (father) and Montserrat Pique (mother). Professionally, his father is a businessman while his mother is the director of a prestigious spinal injuries hospital in Barcelona. In addition, he grew up with his brother Marc Pique.
Early Career
Coming toward his academic career, Pique has not yet revealed his academic qualifications. But, he might have completed his early schooling at a local school and might completed his graduation from a local university in Spain.
From an early age, he had an interest in football and began his youth career in 1997 when he entered the FC Barcelona academy as a ten-year-old and joined the youngest boys’ team at the club at that time (Alevín B).
In addition, he was among the main defenders of his team and practiced in the academy for many years. During that time, he played in the various youth levels and age categories (Alevín A, Infantil B, and A, Cadete B, and A, and Juvenil B and A).
During his time in the academy, he boosted his skills and displayed a great ability to adapt to different positions on the field. Later, he left FC Barcelona at the end of the 2003–04 season.
Professional Career
Manchester United
After signing a contract with the English football club, Manchester United, Gerard Pique made his debut in October 2004 as a center-back, a 67th-minute replacement for John O’Shea in a 3–0 League Cup victory at Crewe Alexandra.
On the 29th of March 2006, he made his full debut against West Ham United, playing as a right-back, as Gary Neville was unavailable due to injury. He hit his first goal in the UEFA Champions League with a winning score of 4–0 against Dynamo Kyiv on 7 November 2007.
Similarly, he scored his second goal on the 12th of December 2007 in the Champions League against Roma. However, his contract with United came to an end.
Barcelona Club
Afterward, he signed a four-year contract with the Spanish football club, Barcelona on the 27th of May 2008. With a €5 million buy-out clause, he signed with the club. For the club, his first goal came in the Champions League Group Stage against Sporting CP on 26th November 2008.
In addition, he helped his club to a winning score of 4–1 over Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey Final on 13th May 2009 and picked up the first trophy of his Barcelona career. He signed a contract extension with the the club on 26th of February 2010 and kept him at Barcelona until at least the summer of 2015.

He was a part of the team when Barca lifted the European Cup by defeating Manchester United with a winning score of 3-1 on 28th May 2011. In addition, he again extended his contract with Barcelona on 20th May 2014, keeping the club until 2019. Moreover, he extended his contract with the team again on the 18th of January 2018, keeping him until 2022.
Retirement
Again, on the 20th of October 2020, he signed a contract extension that would keep him at the club until 20 June 2024, setting his buy-out clause at €500 million. His last-minute header in the Copa del Rey semifinals against Sevilla, tied the aggregate score to send the game to extra time.
And, the team won the game 3–0 in extra time and advanced to the 2021 Copa del Rey Final, which the team won. He said he would retire following Barcelona’s La Liga match against Almería on 5 November 2022. Moreover, he played his last game at Camp Nou, starting as captain.
International Career
He has represented his home country Spain in different age categories. He has competed in both senior and junior-level tournaments. Moreover, he was a member of Spain’s U19 side that won the 2006 U19 European Championship held in Poland against Scotland.
This footballer played in the 2007 Fifa U20 World Cup. In a friendly match against England, he was up to the senior squad on 6th February 2009. Later, he made his tournament debut for Spain at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, starting in four of the team’s five matches as La Roja finished in third place.
In the 2010 World Cup, he played as Spain’s first-choice center-back playing alongside Puyol. He and his partnership with Puyol saw Spain concede only twice in seven World Cup matches.
Following that, he played in UEFA Euro 2012, the 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup, and UEFA Euro 2016. He made his 100th international appearance after appearing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup on 20 June, a 1–0 win against Iran. He announced his retirement from international football on 11 August 2018.

Being a famous football player, he has won a couple of awards in his footballing career. In 2009, he was named the La Liga Breakthrough Player of the Year. Similarly, he was decorated with the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit in 2011.

Tax Fraud
Gerard Pique was ordered to pay €2.1 million to the tax authorities by the Spanish court on the 10th of July 2019. Moreover, he was convicted of image rights fraud. Further, he was convicted by Spain’s National Court in 2016 for faking the sale of his image rights to his Kerad Project company to evade taxes from 2008 to 2010.
