Gary Sinise is an actor, director, producer, musician, and humanitarian from the United States. Gary Sinise is well-known for his versatile acting career in film, television, and theatre. Some of his notable film roles include Lieutenant Dan Taylor in “Forrest Gump” (1994), Ken Mattingly in “Apollo 13” (1995), and Detective Jimmy Shaker in “Ransom” (1996).

Professional Career

Gary Sinise started his professional journey as an uncredited extra in the 1978 American comedy film “A Wedding.” Then, he starred in one episode of the soap opera “Knots Landing” in 1980.

Later, he started on stage with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1983 when he directed and starred in a production of Sam Shepard’s “True West” for which he earned an Obie Award.

In 1985, he and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company received the Regional Theatre Tony Award. He has garnered Tony Award nominations for his roles in “The Grapes of Wrath” (1988) and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (2001).

Later, he played George Milton in the historical drama “Of Mice and Men,” which was released on October 2, 1992. He was also the film’s producer and director. The critically praised picture was screened at the ‘Cannes Film Festival’ that year. It also got him a nomination for the ‘Palme d’Or’ award.

Rose to Fame

He played Lieutenant Dan Taylor in the romance drama “Forrest Gump,” which was released in theatres across the United States on July 6, 1994. The movie, which was starring Tom Hanks, was Sinise’s first of three collaborations with Hanks.

The picture received critical praise and made $677.9 million at the box office, becoming the year’s highest-grossing North American movie.

The film’s success boosted Sinise’s professional career. He again collaborated with Hanks  in two dramas; the 1995 space docu-drama “Apollo 13” and the 1999 fantasy crime-drama “The Green Mile.” Both of the dramas became critical and commercial hits.

In September 1995, he was cast as Harry S Truman in the award-winning HBO TV movie “Truman.” For his role in the movie, he won several awards and nominations. Similarly, he played the titular role of former Governor of Alabama George C Wallace in the TV movie “George Wallace” which was aired on August 24, 1997 on TNT network.

He was cast in his first regular TV series when he played Detective Mac Taylor in the police procedural series “CSI: NY.” Moreover, he appeared in all nine seasons of the series. The series started on ‘CBS’ on September 22, 2004, and lasted for 197 episodes, finishing on February 22, 2013.

He has been recognized as a producer on “CSI: NY” since its second season. Moreover, he also created and acted in the police procedural television show “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders”‘ which aired on ‘CBS’ for two seasons, from March 16, 2016, to May 17, 2017. On October 30, the same year, he was appointed as the ‘Grand Marshal’ of the ‘Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade’, which took place on January 1, 2018.

Over the years, he has been in several important films. Among them are the 1996 American criminal thriller “Ransom,” the 1998 American conspiracy thriller “Snake Eyes,” the 2000 science-fiction adventure “Mission to Mars,” and the 2000 crime thriller “Reindeer Games.”

He has also tried his hand at voice acting, appearing in films like “Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D” (2005), “Open Season” (2006), “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), and “Beyond Glory” (2016).
