Early Life

Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos known as Fred, was 5th March 1993, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He has a sun sign of Pisces and is currently 30 years old. Professional Career

Coming toward his footballing career, Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos began playing for the youth team of Atletico Mineiro in 2003 and played until 2009. After this, he joined the youth team Porto Alegre in 2009. Playing for a year for Porto Alegre, he joined the youth team of Internacional and began his career at the club.

Initially, he represented the club at various youth levels and helped them win six titles in 2010, including the Copa Santiago and Copa FGF. On the 26th of January 2012, he made his professional debut for the club against Ceramica in the Campeonato Caucho.

While, he scored his debut goal in professional football on 18 July 2012, in a 3-1 loss against his former club Atletico Mineiro.  For Internacional, he scored a total of 8 goals in 55 appearances for the club and won the Campeonato Gaucho twice.

Shakhtar Donetsk

He then signed for the Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth €15 million on the 26th of June 2o13. He scored his competitive debut for the club, scoring twice in a 3-1 win against Chornomorets in the final of the Ukrainian Super Cup on 10 July 2013.

During his first season with the club, he made 31 total appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists in all the competitions as Shakhtar Donetsk won the Ukrainian Premier League and Ukrainian Super Cup that season.

He played a total of 35 matches for the club, scoring one in all the competitions, during the 2014-2015 season.  Meanwhile, he made 23 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals in all the competitions as Shakhtar Donetsk won the Ukrainian Super Cup during the 2015-2016 season.

He played a total of 29 matches for the club, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists in all the competitions as Shakhtar Donetsk won the Ukrainian Premier League during the 2016-2017 season. He scored a free-kick, his first goal in the UEFA Champions League in a 2-1 round of 16 first-leg victory against AS Roma on the 21st February 2018.

Moreover, played 37 matches for the club, scoring 4 goals and providing 7 assists in all the competitions as Shakhtar Donetsk won the Ukrainian Premier League and Ukrainian Cup. During his time at Shakhtar, he won 10 trophies, including three Ukrainian Premier League titles.

Manchester United

Santos signed a five-year contract with the option to extend for a further year for Premier League club Manchester United for a reported fee of £47 million on 1st of July 2018. On 10th August 2018, he made his debut for the club in a 2-1 win against Leicester City.

He scored his debut goal for the club in a 1-1 home draw against Wolverhampton on the 22nd of September 2018. During his debut season for the club, he made 25 appearances for the club, scoring once and providing 1 assist in all the competitions.

During the Manchester derby on December 7, 2019, he was allegedly racially harassed by Manchester City fans. He scored two goals and assisted on another in United’s UEFA Europa League round of 32 match against Club Brugge on February 27, 2020, which they won 5-0 and 6-1 on aggregate.

Continued playing for Man U

During the 2019-20 season, he appeared in 48 games for the club, scoring two goals and contributing five assists. During the 2020-21 season, he made 48 appearances for Manchester United, scoring once and contributing two assists in all competitions as the club finished runner-up in the UEFA Europa League.

Moreover, he scored Manchester United’s fifth goal in a 5-1 win over Leeds United on the first day of the 2021-22 Premier League, with an assist from Paul Pogba. He scored in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 5, 2021.

On February 23, 2023, he performed his best game in a Manchester jersey, leading to a 2-1 victory over Barcelona, resulting in qualification for the round of 16 of the Europa League. He played a total of 56 games in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing six assists in the 2022-2023 season for the club.

During this season, he became the Brazilian with the most games in the Red Devil’s shirt, on January 25th, 2023, in a game against Nottingham Forest, and United won 3-0, a match valid for the semi-finals of the English League Cup, he completed 183 games, surpassingAnderson.

Fenerbahce

He arranged a transfer from Manchester United to Fenerbahçe on the 11th of August 2023. It is reported that the Turkish team will pay around €10 million (R$53 million) plus €5 million (R$26.7 million) in bonuses and variables to the English team.

International Career

Santos represented his country Brazil in various age levels.  At the 2013 South American Youth Football Championship, he played three times for the Brazil U20 team. On 12 November 2014, he made his international team debut in a 4-0 friendly win against Turkey.

Due to an injury to Luiz Gustavo in June 2015, he was called up to Brazil’s squad for the 2015 Copa America in Chile, starting in their first two Group C matches as they reached the quarter-finals.

Initially, he was selected in the Brazil U23 squad for the 2016 Olympic Games. Shakhtar Donetsk, however, did not allow him to participate in the competition, and he was replaced in the squad by Wallace.  He got a nomination for Tite’s final 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in May 2018 but did not play in the tournament. He was named to Brazil’s team for the 2021 Copa America on home soil in June 2021.

On November 7, 2022, he was announced as the squad’s call-up for the 2022 World Cup. On November 24, he made his World Cup debut, coming on at 28 minutes in Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Serbia.
