In the 1992 season, he became a full-time starter for the Dodgers, playing in 149 games hitting 20 home runs, and driving in 88 runs, earning him the National League Rookie of the Year award.

Similarly, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs on December 2, 2002, and began the season as the team’s backup first baseman. He hit 286 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI in 114 games with the Cubs.
