Early Life
Elpidia Carrillo was born in Parácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico on the 16th of August 1961. She is 62 years old (as of 2023) under the zodiac sign Leo. Carrillo holds a Mexican nationality and follows the Christian religion.
Regarding her family background, She was one of eight kids. She grew up in a violent and impoverished environment with farm laborers. At the age of 3, Her father was murdered. So, her eldest brother started looking after the family.

There, Carrillo dropped out of school and started working at a Chinese restaurant with her sister.

The movie she acted in featured a nude scene while she was still underage. Further, She continued her acting and modeling careers, and in 1977 she acted in Rafael Corkidi’s fantasy drama series “Deseos.”
She then appeared in “Pedro Paramo” in 1978 and received praise for her performance in Gabriel Retes’ historical drama “Nuevo Mundo” that same year. She later enrolled at Bellas Arts School in Mexico City and continued her acting career, making appearances in several Mexican movies like “Bandera Rota” (1979), “El Jugador de Ajedrez,” and “La Virgen Robada” in 1981.
Elpidia wanted to try herself in Hollywood after becoming well-known across the country. She did a few auditions before acting as a Maria in Tony Richardson’s 1982 crime drama “The Border,” which also starred Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel.
Following this strong debut, she was cast as Clara, the female lead, alongside Richard Gere, Michael Caine, and Bob Hoskins in the drama film Beyond the Limit (1983), and the following year she appeared in the war drama “Under Fire,” which starred Nick Nolte, Ed Harris, and Gene Hackman.
She acted as the female lead in the action drama movie “Salvador” three years later, earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead. In the same year, she even played the role of Anna in the sci-fi action movie “Predator,” which is by far her most notable role.

In 1994, she made a comeback in Mexican cinema with “La Hija del Puma,” In 1997, she appeared in Johnny Depp’s debut, “The Brave.”
She acted in two more Mexican successes, “Un embrujo” (1998), directed by Carlos Carrera, and “La Otra Conquista” (1998), directed by Salvador Carrasco before the 1990s came to an end.
She began the new millennium playing the lead in the drama “Bread and Roses” (2000) alongside Pilar Padilla and Adrien Brody, for which she won the ALMA Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. In 2005, she appeared in “Nine Lives,” for which she won her second ALMA Award in the same category.
Three years later, she made another successful appearance in the Will Smith and Rosario Dawson-starring Hollywood movie “Seven Pounds,” and in 2009, she played a supporting role in the critically acclaimed drama “Mother and Child.”
Elpidia then put her attention elsewhere and didn’t act again until she was given the role of Dalia in the comedy “Familia Gang” in 2014. Since then, she has appeared in the movies “Foreign Land” (2016) and “Relentless” (2017).
