Davis Love is an American Professional Golfer. Davis Love won the 1997 PGA Championship and a number of other PGA events as well. He was able to finish second at the Masters in the years 1995 and 1999 and tied for second at the 1996 U.S. Open.

He was able to play college golf at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. During that time, he was a three-time All-American and all-Atlantic Coast Conference. He also was able to win six titles during his collegiate career, including the ACC tournament championship as a sophomore in 1984.

Career and Professional Life

Davis Love was able to turn professional in the year 1985. This helped him earn his PGA Tour card in the autumn of 1985, on his first attempt. Also, he quickly established himself on the PGA Tour, winning his first tour event in 1987 at the MCI Heritage Golf Classic, at Harbour Town Golf Links. Later on, he won this event four more times. This set a record for the most victories in the tournament.

He had a successful career on the PGA Tour in the 1990s and early 2000s. His most memorable win was at the 1997 PGA Championship, which took place at Winged Foot Golf Club near New York City. Love finished with a score of 11-under-par, winning by five strokes over Justin Leonard.

What made the victory even more special was that as Love walked up to the 18th green, a rainbow appeared, symbolizing his late father, Davis Love Jr., who was a respected figure in the golf world. Interestingly, this win was also notable as it was the last major championship victory achieved with a wooden-headed driver.

Likewise, Love along with his brother, Mark founded Love Golf Design in the year 1994. Together, they’ve designed courses in the US and internationally, including Ocean Creek in South Carolina and the Dunes course in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

He also wrote “Every Shot I Take” in the year 1997. It is a book that honours his father’s teachings and won an award. He also was able to design Anderson Creek Club which is a golf course in North Carolina that was recognized as the best new course in the state.

Moreover, Davis Love was able to win his 20th PGA Tour event in the year 2008. This was a lifetime exemption. He then went on to captain the U.S. Team in the 2012 Ryder Cup. When he was 51 years old, he became the third-oldest winner in PGA Tour history. Love even made his Champions Tour debut in the year 2014.

Love captained the winning U.S. Team at the 2016 Ryder Cup. He also won the Father/Son Challenge along with his son in the year 2018. He was able to join CBS as an analyst in 2020 but later left to focus on family.

He also led the U.S. team to victory in the 2022 Presidents Cup. Furthermore, Love has a highway named after him on I-95 in Georgia. He hit a 476-yard drive in 2004, and there’s a restaurant, “Davis Love Grill” in Sea Island, Georgia.
