Public Works

Her interests shifted to public works and she got more active in government after President Bill Clinton appointed her to the Advisory Committee for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1999. Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger nominated her as California State Commissioner for the California Service Corps in 2005, and she also established Team Safe-T, an emergency preparation program for K-12 schools.

Six years later, Yorkin was appointed to the UCLA School of Public Health Dean’s Advisory Board to assist in seeking money for the campus’s global bio lab. Cindy Horn and Dr. Linda Rosenstock, Dean of UCLA’s School of Public Health, were her collaborators.

She moved on to produce her first feature film, the critically acclaimed “Blade Runner 2049,” directed by Oscar candidate Denis Villeneuve and starring Academy Award nominees Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. The film received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematographer for Roger Deakins.
