Colton Parayko’s performances at the collegiate level caught the attention of NHL scouts, leading to his eventual selection by the St. Louis Blues in the 86th overall as a 19-year-old in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Following the draft, he spent three seasons with the Alaska Nanooks, where he earned All-WCHA First Team and West Second-Team All-American awards. He finished his academic career in 2015 and began his professional career with the Blues.
Parayko was promptly sent to the Blues’ American Hockey League club, the Chicago Wolves, to finish out the 2014-15 season before making his NHL debut the following season.
After that, he played in 79 games for the Blues following the season, scoring 33 points. On January 8, 2017, during the Blues’ team skills competition, he recorded the hardest shot of the day at 104 miles per hour, breaking the record set at the league-wide skills competition that year.
On July 21, 2017, the Blues re-signed him to a five-year, $27.5 million contract at $5.5 million per year. Similarly, he led the Blues to their first Stanley Cup victory in 52 years of franchise history. He signed an eight-year, $52 million contract extension with the Blues, on the 1st of September 2021.
Moreover, he represented Team North America in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and Team Canada at the 2017 IIHF World Championship.
