Los Angeles Kings
He was the first goaltender taken from the Canadian Hockey League in the 2011 draft, going 49th overall to the Los Angeles Kings. He was transferred by the Maple Leafs to the New York Islanders on September 17, 2015, along with four other prospects, in exchange for Michael Grabner.

Gibson left the Islanders organization after five seasons and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 9, 2020. Moreover, he was initially assigned to the Lightning’s taxi squad for the pandemic-delayed 2020-21 season.

Gibson, a free agent from the Panthers, went unsigned throughout the summer before signing with the Arizona Coyotes. He was released without a contract on September 30, 2022, after exploring the Coyotes training camp.
On October 14, 2022, he agreed to join the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken on a professional tryout contract and was named to the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ opening roster for their debut season in 2022-23.
