Los Angeles Kings

He was the first goaltender taken from the Canadian Hockey League in the 2011 draft, going 49th overall to the Los Angeles Kings. Additionally, he would re-enter the draft if he was not signed by the Kings, but he was instead signed by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was transferred by the Maple Leafs to the New York Islanders on September 17, 2015, along with four other prospects, in exchange for Michael Grabner.

Further, he made the NHL roster on January 2, 2016, filling in for Thomas Greiss. He let up one goal against Patric Hornqvist but made 16 saves. Additionally, he made his NHL debut and earned his first NHL victory with the Islanders against the Washington Capitals on April 6, 2016. Moreover, he made 29 stops as the Islanders recovered from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 in overtime. The victory guaranteed the Islanders a spot in the 2016 playoffs. Gibson left the Islanders organization after five seasons and signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on October 9, 2020. Moreover, he was initially assigned to the Lightning’s taxi squad for the pandemic-delayed 2020-21 season.

Gibson, a free agent from the Panthers, went unsigned throughout the summer before signing with the Arizona Coyotes. He was released without a contract on September 30, 2022, after exploring the Coyotes training camp.

On October 14, 2022, he agreed to join the AHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken on a professional tryout contract and was named to the Coachella Valley Firebirds’ opening roster for their debut season in 2022-23. Moreover, he was signed to an NHL contract by the Kraken after participating in one game with the Firebirds, agreeing to a one-year, two-way contract on October 27, 2022.

International Career
