Christine Mboma is an athlete in Namibia. Christine Mboma won a silver medal in the 200 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the age of 18 becoming the first-ever Namibian woman to win a women’s Olympic medal and breaking a world under 20.

Early Life

Christine Mboma was born on May 22, 2003, in Shinyungwe, Kavango East region, Namibia. Her full name is Christine Katiku Mboma. She is 20 years old (as of 2023) under the zodiac sign Gemini. She holds Namibian nationality while her ethnicity is not mentioned.

Christine was abandoned by her father as a baby, and her mother passed away in 2016 while giving birth, leaving her to take care of her two younger siblings.

Regarding her educational background, As of 2021, she with her fellow Namibian Olympian Beatrice Masilingi attended Grootfontein Agricultural College.


Talking about her career, Christine took up athletics in 2017. She won the 800 and 1500 meters events at the school’s Cossasa Games in Manzini, Eswatini in May 2019. After two months she earned a bronze medal in the 800 m at the Southern Africa Championships in Moka, Mauritius.

Similarly, Christine won gold medals in the 800 and 1500 m races at the Namibian Championships in Windhoek in November 2020. On 27 March 2021, she won the 400 m race at the Grand Prix Meet in Oshakati, Namibia.

Christine recorded a new PB, Namibian on June 7 and kept a record of 22.67 s in the 200 m at the Josef Odlozil Memorial in Prague to take a gold medal. Likewise, she set the African senior and new world U20 record in the 400 m on June 30, 2021.

Christine won the Irena Szewinska Memorial in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and became the 7th fastest woman of all time in the event. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she won the silver medal. She became the first woman from Namibia to ever win an Olympic medal as well as the first medalist from Namibia since 1996. She took first place in the 200 m race at her first Diamond League competition in Brussels on September 3, 2021. She won the Diamond League championship on September 9 in Zürich, clocking 21.78 seconds to claim her maiden Diamond Trophy, capping off a very successful season.

Before the game, Christine and her fellow Namibian sprinter Beatrice Masilingi were not allowed to take part in 400m at the Tokyo Olympics due to WA regulations on XY DSD athletes with naturally high testosterone levels.

In early 2021,  Christine and Masilingi had undergone a medical assessment at a training camp in Italy, at which they tested positive for high testosterone levels due to an inherently occurring genetic condition. Both sprinters had been oblivious to the condition before the evaluation.
