Later, he stepped down from Facebook in 2007. He quit Facebook to work on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. In March 2009, he was designated Entrepreneur in Residence at General Catalyst. He was also the executive director of Jumo, a non-profit social networking group.

Meanwhile, he established the organization in 2010. The organization’s goal is to assist people in finding methods to serve around the world. In July 2010, UNAIDS named him to a 17-member “High-Level Commission” of prominent politicians, corporate executives, human rights activists, and scientists.

In March 2012, he purchased a majority share in The New Republic magazine. He was appointed as the magazine’s publisher and executive chairman. Additionally, he was also the magazine’s editor-in-chief. His stint at The New Republic was not profitable. In February 2016, he sold the magazine to Win McCormack of Oregon.

In 2016, he co-founded the Economic Security Project. Later, in 2018, he wrote “Fair Shot: Rethinking Inequality and How We Earn.” Moreover, in May 2019, he submitted an op-ed in the New York Times advocating for Facebook to be broken up and government supervision of its content.
