Similarly, he worked at First Eagle for 17 years eventually becoming a co-portfolio manager of several funds including the First Eagle Global Fund. During his time at First Eagle, he helped to build the firm’s reputation as a leading value investor. As a result, the First Eagle Global Fund was consistently among the top-performing funds in its category.
Likewise, in 2007, he co-founded International Value Advisers (IVA) with his longtime friend and colleague named Chuck de Lardemelle. At IVA, he served as a Chief Investment Officer and co-portfolio manager of several funds which include the IVA Worldwide Fund and the IVA International Fund.
Furthermore, under his leadership, IVA grew to manage several billion dollars in assets and the firm’s funds earned a reputation for delivering strong returns while minimizing risk. He was known for his disciplined investment approach which focused on identifying undervalued companies with strong fundamentals and holding them for the long term.
Additionally, IVA announced in March 2021 that it would liquidate its funds and close shop because its assets had fallen from $20 billion to under $1 billion due to client redemptions, which were attributed in part to a generalized slump in the value investing strategies.
