Cecily Strong is an American Actress and Comedian. Cecily Strong is the Second City alum who was able to join the cast of “Saturday Night Live” for its 38th season. She also was cast in the 2016 reboot “Ghostbusters”.

Early Life and Childhood

Cecily Strong was born on February 8, 1984, in Springfield, Illinois, USA. She is 40 years old and is under the astrological sign, Aquarius. She holds American nationality and her full name is Cecily Legler Strong.

Her father’s name is William Strong and her mother’s name is Penelope Strong. Her father worked as an Associated Press bureau chief and as of 2013 ran his own public relations firm.

And, her mother, on the other hand, is a nurse practitioner, having worked extensively at area hospitals. Likewise, her parents are divorced and are no longer together. She grew up adoring SNL as a child, reenacting sketches with her friend as well as watching old SNL commercials on VHS.

Regarding Strong’s educational background and qualifications, she attended Oak Park and River Forest High School until her sophomore year. It was because she was expelled for bringing marijuana to school. She then went on to attend a private Catholic school until transferring for her senior year to the Chicago Academy for the Arts, where she graduated in the year 2002.

She also studied acting at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). And, graduated in the year 2006 with a BFA in theatre. After graduation, she was able to return to Chicago where she studied at the Second City Conservatory and iO Chicago.

Career and Professional Life

Cecily Strong was able to perform regularly at The Second City and iO Chicago. She also got the opportunity to perform on a cruise ship with other Second City members for four months.

She then went on to appear at the Chicago Sketch Fest, Chicago Just for Laughs, the New York Sketchfest, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Goodman Theater, the Bailiwick Theater, the Mercury Theater, and with the all-female improv troupe Virgin Daiquiri.

Strong began on Saturday Night Live in the year 2012. She eventually became a regular cast member and co-anchored Weekend Update with Seth Meyers and later Colin Jost. Also, in the years 2020 and 2021, she was nominated for Primetime Emmy awards. She went on to receive both praise and backlash for a comedy skit she did on Weekend Update because the sketch, “Goober the Clown Who Had An Abortion When She Was 23,” sparked controversy after oral arguments on abortion-related cases.

However, she later confirmed on Instagram that the sketch referenced her abortion and followed up on the topic a year later with another sketch. Likewise, she was able to make a comeback and become the longest-running female cast member in season 48 of SNL.

Strong was the featured entertainer at the 2015 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. She even took digs at the various news organizations in attendance, politicians of all persuasions, and President Obama.

She went on to take shots at the U.S. Secret Service, the host location of the Washington Hilton, Brian Williams, Sarah Koenig, and the state of Indiana. She did an Old Navy commercial with SNL cast members Nasim Pedrad and Jay Pharoah in the year 2016. She even became a correspondent on the climate change show Years of Living Dangerously.

She went on to release her memoir, “This Will All Be Over Soon” on August 10, 2021. This book explores her experiences during the pandemic, including starting a relationship, losing loved ones, and the events that shaped her life. It even originated from an essay she wrote about grieving her cousin’s loss during the pandemic.

Furthermore, Strong was able to join Michael Che in HBO Max’s comedy series “That Damn Michael Che” in the year 2021. She even was able to star in and produce the musical parody series “Schmigadoon!” on Apple TV+, alongside Keegan-Michael Key. She went on to make her New York stage debut in an Off-Broadway revival of “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe”.
