He had completed his first semester at Pullman, Washington State University, where he had moved to pursue a Ph.D. in the same profession, nine days prior to his arrest.
Criminal Record
On November 13, 2022, four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves age 21, Madison Mogen age 21, Ethan Chapin age 20, and Xana Kernodle age 20—were brutally stabbed to death while they were most likely sleeping between 3 am to 4 am in the morning on the second and third floors of a three-story rented home off-campus in Moscow, Idaho. The house was home to the three female victims, and the fourth victim, Ethan Chapin, was Xana Kernodle’s boyfriend who was present that fateful night.

In the same house as the killer, there were two additional female roommates, but they slept through the killings and were spared. For a city where a murder hadn’t occurred since 2015, this incident was shocking. Kohberger was detained on December 30, 2022, at his parents’ home in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, about 2,500 miles from the scene of the crime, as the primary suspect in the brutal murder of four University of Idaho students.
According to his former friends, Bryan Christopher Kohberger was bullied by girls at high school for being overweight, called a creep, and overweight, but at the end of high school, after losing about 36 kg, he completely changed himself and started acting like an aggressive bully. After being detained on four counts of first-degree murder and one felony burglary, he was held without bond in the Monroe County Correctional Facility in Stroudsburg. Additionally appointed to represent him was a public attorney. He is scheduled to return to court on January 3, 2023.
