Bruce Boxleitner was born on 12th May 1950 in a city called Elgin in Illinois, United States. The actor’s father’s name is Cliff Boxleitner and his mother’s name is Diane Boxleitner. His real birth name is Bruce William Boxleitner and has three siblings named Terri, Sandi, and Nancy.

In 1973, Bruce Boxleitner started his acting career in a prominent role in an episode of the CBS sitcom, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” He played the role of  Rick Welsh a track star at the University of Minnesota. After that, he made his film debut as Bobby Joe in the film “Sixpack Annie” in 1975.

He started being a regular role as Luke Macahan in the ABC Western “How the West Was Won.” In the series, he appeared in a total of 25 episodes from 1976 to 1979. He played the role of Billie Joe Robbins, a pool player under the tutelage of legendary player Nick Casey (played by James Coburn) in the 1980 film “The Baltimore Bullet.”

In addition, he played the role of a young poker player Billy Montana in the CBS movie “Kenny Rogers as the Gambler.” He reprised the role in the instalments “Kenny Rogers as the Gambler: The Adventure Continues” (1983), “Kenny Rogers as the Gambler, Part III: The Legend Continues” (1987), and “Gambler V: Playing for Keeps” (1994).

Meanwhile, he played the role of Frank Buck in the adventure television series “Bring ‘Em Back Alive” appearing in a total of 17 episodes from 1982 to 1983. He was cast as the Wyatt Earp in the 1983 NBC movie “I Married Wyatt Earp.”

He played ‘Lee Stetson (“Scarecrow”)’ in the CBS adventure series “Scarecrow and Mrs. King.” From 1983 to 1987, he appeared in a total of 89 episodes in this series. Bruce then began appearing in commercials for the ‘Lauder for Men’ line of the skincare brand ‘Estee Lauder.’ He played Joey, in the 1990 Australian film “Breakaway.”

In 1992, he played American professional baseball player Joe Dugan in the biographical film “The Babe.” That year, he appeared in the action-comedy “Kuffs” as Brad Kuffs, a ‘San Francisco Patrol Special Police’ employee, and as Jack Hart, a lead role in the thriller “Double Jeopardy.”

He played Davis Healy in the 1994 television film “Gunsmoke: One Man’s Justice.” Moreover, he joined the cast of “Babylon 5” (season 2) as Captain John J. Sheridan and stayed until season 5 (1994–1998).

Furthermore, he reprised his role as Captain John J. Sheridan in the science-fiction TV movie adaptations “Babylon 5: In the Beginning” and “Babylon 5: Thirdspace” (both released in 1998), and then as President John J. Sheridan in “Babylon 5: A Call to Arms” (1999) and “Babylon 5: The Lost Tales” (2007).

In the ‘Animal Planet,’ movie “Hope Ranch,” he played J.T. Hope, a former marine and the owner of the ‘Circle Hope Ranch.’ Similarly, he played Jordan Walker in the 2003 ‘Pax TV’ disaster film “Killer Flood: The Day the Dam Broke.” He portrayed high-tech research facility neurosurgeon Dr. Dietrich in the 2004 thriller film “Brilliant.”

Additionally, he played the lead investigator Sheriff Patrick James in the 2004 science-fiction horror TV movie “Snakehead Terror.” He appeared as Dr. Woody Woodcomb in “Chuck” (2008-2009), Robert Malden in “Heroes” (2008-2009), Vice Admiral C. Clifford Chase in “NCIS” (2010-2017), and Burl Lourd in “GCB” (2012) in brief recurring roles.

He appeared in 30 episodes of the ‘Hallmark Channel’ drama “Cedar Cove” (2013-2015) as Bob Beldon, opposite Barbara Niven (as ‘Peggy Beldon’). Meanwhile, his recent television works include “Supergirl” (2018-2019), and “The Orville” (2022). Similarly, he played the role of Ben Watkins in the 2023 upcoming American Western film “Far Haven.”
