He worked with no-wave musicians as well as artists including Brian Eno, Fred Frith, John Zorn, Daniel Ponce, Ginger Baker, Peter Brötzmann, Kip Hanrahan, and Sonny Sharrock.

Bill and Martin Bisi created a music studio and met Celluloid Records’ Jean Karakos. Baselines was Laswell’s debut solo album. Later, he co-wrote and produced “Rockit” on Herbie Hancock’s album Future Shock.
He played bass guitar on the record and co-wrote other songs; as a result, they worked together more in the 2000s. He received a Grammy for producing Hancock’s subsequent album, Sound-System. In 1986, he founded the band Last Exit with Peter Brötzmann, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Sonny Sharrock. He was a part of Dave Douglas’ Uplift band in November 2018 at the London Jazz Festival.
Laswell often works with small groups of individuals. In 2005, Laswell was chosen to take part in the PBS program Soundstage. Pharoah Sanders, Foday Musa Suso, Bootsy Collins, and Catfish Collins were among the performers during the show, along with Praxis and Tabla Beat Science members.
