Bang Si-Hyuk is a songwriter, lyricist, composer, producer, and record executive from South Korea. Bang Si-Hyuk is best recognized as the founder of Big Hit Music (formerly Big Hit Entertainment) and Hybe Corporation, and chairman of the latter.

Early Life

Bang Si-Hyuk is a 51-year-old South Korean. On the 9th of August 1972, he was born in South Korea. According to the astrological chart, he has a horoscope of Leo and he is also nick-named Hitman. He belongs to the Asian ethnicity while his religious belief is unknown.

He was born to Bang Geuk-yoon (father) and Choi Myung-ja (mother). By profession, his father is a former president of the Korea Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Corporation at the Korea Social Insurance Research Institute. He grew up with his younger sister whose name is unknown.

His cousin, Bang Jun-hyuk, is the founder of Netmarble, South Korea’s largest mobile gaming firm, and his maternal uncle, politician and former journalist Choi Kyu-sik, was nominated as South Korea’s ambassador to Hungary in 2018. Growing up, Si-Hyuk built an interest in music while he was discouraged from pursuing a career in the industry by his parents.

Bang Si-Hyuk – Education

He went to Kyunggi High School. During his high school days, he formed a band with friends and started writing and performing songs he had composed. Later, he enrolled at the Seoul National University and earned a degree in aesthetics.

Professional Career

Bang Si-Hyuk made his debut as a composer while still in college. In 1994, he won the Yoo Jae-ha Music Contest, a singer-songwriter discovery contest, and began his career composing and producing songs in earnest.

Moreover, he met Park Jin-young in 1997, and the two frequently collaborated as a songwriting duet. He joined Park’s company, JYP Entertainment, as a composer, arranger, and producer. The first-generation group “g.o.d.” was one of their early achievements.

The instruments and music of the g.o.d’s first album “Chapter 1” were prepared by Si-Hyuk. “One Candle” and “Road” are two of g.o.d’s most well-known songs that Si-Hyuk has arranged. During this time, he adopted the stage moniker “Hitman.”

In addition to g.o.d, he has produced or composed for many other artists, including veterans Im Chang-Jung and Park Ji-Yoon, singer-actor Rain, groups Wonder Girls, 2 AM, and Teen Top, and R&B vocalist Baek Ji-young.

However, he left JYP Entertainment and established his own company named “Big Hit Entertainment” in the year 2005. He continues to write, compose, and produce for big-name artists. Moreover, he co-wrote six songs on BTS’s critically acclaimed “Wings” (2016) album. He and BTS were on the cover of Time magazine in April 2022.

Later that month, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business from Seoul National University (SNU) in recognition of his “contribution to the development and innovation of the nation’s cultural and entertainment industry” and his “role in turning K-pop into a global pop music culture.”

Si-Hyuk has earned several awards and recognitions which he has earned through his profession. Being a songwriter, lyricist, composer, producer, and record executive, he has a lot of money in his profession. As of September 2023, his net worth is estimated at around $2.3 billion. Meanwhile, he is the founder and chairman of  Hybe (formerly Big Hit Entertainment), one of Korea’s largest music labels and entertainment agencies.

He took the company public in October 2020, making him a millionaire in South Korea’s largest IPO in three years. He gave 5 billion won (about $3.5 million) to the Community Chest of Korea in October 2022. His primary source of fortune is the entertainment sector, and he is a self-made entrepreneur.

Relationship Status

In terms of his personal life, Bang Si-hyuk is not yet married. He is said to be dating a 21-year-old woman who is 25 years his junior. He’s been in the news recently because of a rediscovered picture from Vietnam.
