Early Life

Born as Louis Mario Freese, better known by his stage name B-Real was born in Los Angeles, California, the United States, on June 2, 1970. According to the astrological chart, he has a birth sign of Gemini and is 53 years old as of 2023. He holds US nationality and belongs to a mixed ethnicity of Mexican and Cuban descent.

In addition, his father was a Mexican while his mother was Cuban. He was raised with his sister whose name is unknown. At the age of five, he moved with his sister and mother out of his father’s home to South Gate, California. Later, he resided in Bell, California.

Professional Career

B-Real’s professional career is primarily associated with his role as the lead rapper of Cypress Hill, one of the pioneering hip-hop groups that emerged in the late 1980s. Cypress Hill, formed in 1988, consists of B-Real (Louis Freese), Sen Dog (Senen Reyes), and DJ Muggs (Lawrence Muggerud). The group is known for its fusion of hip-hop, rock, and Latin influences, as well as its advocacy for marijuana legalization.

In the year 1991, the group signed with Ruffhouse/Columbia Records and released their debut album “Cypress Hill.” The album was a major success and included hits like “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “The Phuncky Feel One.” The album helped the group to a prominent force in the hip-hop scene.

Continued releasing successful albums with the group

After their first success in the entertainment industry, the group released their follow-up album, 1993’s “Black Sunday.” The album was an even bigger hit, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 and eventually selling 3.4 million copies. Similarly, the group became the first Latin rap group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums and remain the best-selling Latin rap group of all time.

Their third studio album named “Cypress Hill III: Temples of Boom” was released in October 1995. After a three-year gap, the group released their fourth studio album “Cypress Hill IV” which was released in October 1998. The album went Gold in the U.S with over 500,000 units sold.

In April 2000, the group released their fifth studio album “Skull & Bones.” The album also features guest appearances from Everlast, Eminem, N.O.R.E., Christian Olde Wolbers, Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine, and Chino Moreno of Deftones.

Later, the group released their following albums such as “Stoned Raiders” (2001), “Till Death Do Us Part” (2004), “Rise Up” (2010), “Elephants on Acid” (2018), and “Back in Black” (2022).

Solo and collaborated with other musical artists

Apart from working with the group, B-Real has also worked on solo projects. He released three mixtapes as a solo artist between 2005 and 2007: “The Gunslinger,” “The Gunslinger Part II: Fist Full of Dollars,” and “The Gunslinger Part III: For a Few Dollars More.” In 2009, he released his debut solo album, “Smoke N Mirrors.”

He appeared as a guest artist on Snoop Dogg’s hit “Vato” off his 2006 album ‘Tha Blue Carpet Treatment.’ He appeared on the Hollywood Undead song “Black Cadillac” from the band’s fifth album Five in 2017.

From 2016 until 2019, he was a member of the Prophets of Rage, alongside Chuck D and former Rage Against the Machine members.
