Athing Mu was born on June 8, 2002, in Trenton, New Jersey, the United States age is 21 years old as of 2022 and Mu is an American citizen by nationality and follows the Christian religion.

Mu broke Alysia Montano’s previous American women’s record of 1:23.59 and came close to breaking Olga Kotlyarova’s world record of 1:23.44. On February 6, Mu ran an indoor 50.52 in the women’s 400 meters, which was 0.3 seconds faster than Sanya Richards’ official World Athletics world under-20 record.

However, Mu’s time was slower than fellow American Sydney McLaughlin’s 50.36, which did not meet the criteria for world record ratification. On April 17, 2021, while running outdoors in Waco, Texas, Mu set the 800-meter USA collegiate record with a time of 1:57.73.

Later that day, at the 2021 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, she lowered her Collegiate Record mark to 49.57 in winning the 400m, before anchoring the Texas A&M Women’s 4 x 400 m relay squad to victory and a new collegiate record of 3:22.34.

Mu set an even better American 800 m record of one minute 55.04 seconds in her first post-Olympic race at the Prefontaine Classic, also the all-comers’ record, putting her eighth on the world all-time list.
