Initially, Anthony Hickox began working as a club promoter in London. In the year 1986, he came to LA and became a writer and director during the late 1980s. He made his directorial debut in the 1989 comedy-horror film “Waxwork .”Later, he directed horror films such as “Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat” (1989), “Waxwork II: Lost in Time” (1992), and “Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth.”
As a result, HBO hired him to create its first action/horror film, “Full Eclipse,” which launched the Friday night action slot that lasted over 5 years and to which Hickox contributed numerous more times. Simultaneously, he kept his deal with Universal, where he shot pilots for “Extreme,” “Two,” “Martial Law,” and “New York Undercover.”
In 2000, he directed the dramatic thriller film “Contaminated Man” working with Natascha McElhone and William Hurt. He then directed Steven Seagal in “Submerged” and Eddie Griffin in “Blast,” both of which grossed over $15 million in direct-to-video.
Other Works
Moreover, he later directed the British horror film “Knife Edge” in 2008. In 2019, he directed “Underdogs Rising” with Chris Pang and “Infamous 6” for PopLife Global, which is owned by Ex Chatman of Disney China.
He served on the boards of directors of the now-defunct film distribution company Seven Arts Pictures, which was operated by Peter Hoffman, the ex-chairman of Carolco, and Medient Studios, which was run by Indian film producer Manu Kumaran.
Additionally, he is recognized as a rebellious filmmaker who frequently clashes with his producers. He is now in Spain filming a Federico Fellini biography and Zombie Bride.
