2020
In 2018, Luna chose to run for Congress. In November 2018, Matt Gaetz gave her his support. She entered the Republican primary for Florida’s 13th congressional district in September 2019. Additionally, she had the support of Students for Trump, Charlie Kirk, Elise Stefanik, and Bill Foster, a former mayor of St. Petersburg, Florida.
She and her husband bought a home in St. Petersburg, close to MacDill Air Force Base, where her husband was assigned, in July 2020. Although Charlie Crist was the incumbent, Luna was defeated in the general election.

2022
In the 2022 election, Anna Paulina Luna defeated Democratic nominee Eric Lynn, a former senior advisor to Barack Obama, to win the position of U.S. representative for Florida’s 13th congressional district.
Before the Republican primary, a rival Republican candidate made a secret threat to hire a hit team to kill her. Marjorie Taylor Greene ran a campaign for Luna in Florida and received support from Donald Trump. She is the first Mexican-American woman from Florida to be elected to Congress.
Tenure
On the first 11 ballots of the 2023 election for Speaker of the House, Luna cast a vote against Kevin McCarthy, endorsing Representative Jim Jordan instead. Byron Donalds was then nominated by Luna.
In May 2023, Luna joined Marjorie Taylor Greene in supporting resolutions calling for the removal of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew M. Graves, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Adam Schiff was to be expelled from Congress and fined $16 million, according to a resolution that Luna sponsored in May 2023.

In September 2020, Luna threatened to sue Twitter because the company refused to verify her account, claiming “political prejudice” and calling it “election meddling.” By verifying Charlie Crist’s account but not Luna’s, Twitter allegedly broke the equal time rule, according to the FEC complaint, which urged the agency to compel Twitter to validate Luna’s account.
Additionally, Luna claimed that Twitter, the federal government, “leftist nonprofits,” and possibly the Democratic National Committee had collaborated to censor Americans in November 2020 through the Jira project management platform, in violation of the First Amendment, during a tense House of Representatives Oversight Committee hearing on February 8, 2023.

Anna Paulina Luna was one of 47 Republicans who supported H.Con.Res. 21 in 2023, which instructed President Joe Biden to withdraw American troops from Syria within 180 days. Luna was one of 52 Republicans who supported H.Con.Res. 30, which would have had American troops leave Somalia, in that same year.

Difficult Childhood
According to Luna, she was raised by her mother on government assistance and “grew up in the welfare system” because she had “no family to rely on”. She has stated that she was raised in a “broken home mentality” and that she discovered her drug-addicted father’s meth bag when she was 10 years old.
