Allie Long was selected seventh overall in the first round of the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer Draft by the Washington Freedom for the inaugural 2009 WPS season on the 16th of January 2009. She made her debut for her team on March 29, 2009, in a match against the Los Angeles Sol.
Moreover, she appeared in 18 regular-season games for the Freedom in 2009, helping the team finish third in the WPS. She stayed with the Washington Freedom throughout the 2010 WPS season. Moreover, she went on to play 21 games for the Freedom during the regular season, scoring two goals. Her team finished fourth in the WPS following the regular season.
Sky Blue FC
She became a free agent and was subsequently signed by Sky Blue FC in November 2010. She made her first appearance for Sky Blue on April 10, 2011, in a match against Philadelphia Independence.

Long scored the Fury’s only goal of the game, and they were beaten 2-1.
Portland Thorns FC
Long signed the Portland Thorns FC on the 17th of January 2013. With the team, she played National Women’s Soccer League for the 2013 season. She became one of Portland’s best players over the years, scoring the most goals in the 2015 season and helping the team to the title in 2013, the semifinals in 2014 and 2016, and the title again in 2017.
At the end of the Thorns’ 2017 season, she had the most appearances for the team across its five seasons and was its second-leading scorer.
Chelsea FC
Following the 2013 NWSL season, she committed to a short-term off-season loan with Chelsea Ladies. She played in Chelsea’s International Women’s Club Championship campaign in Japan before returning to Portland without playing a league match.
Reign FC
She was traded to the Reign FC in exchange for Australian international forward Caitlin Foord on the 11th of January 2018. Moreover, she appeared in 19 regular season games for Seattle in 2018 and scored three goals.
She missed the final three regular-season games due to a knee injury but returned to the lineup for Seattle’s semi-final match against her previous team, the Portland Thorns.
NJ/NY Gotham FC
NJ/NY Gotham FC acquired Long from OL Reign on April 27, 2021, for $80,000 in allocation money and a second-round draft selection.
International Career
Before joining the senior team, she also represented the U20 and U23 teams. She also made her international debut for the United States senior women’s team in a friendly versus Canada. Moreover, she made her international debut for the United States senior women’s team on May 8, 2014, against Canada in a friendly match in Winnipeg, joining in the 68th minute.
She scored her first and second goals in an April 6, 2016, friendly against Colombia at Renschler Field in East Hartford. She competed for the United States national team at the 2016 Olympics, starting three of the four matches. Long made her maiden senior World Cup participation in May 2019, after being picked to the final roster.
