Early Life and Childhood

Alexis Smith is a Canadian television actress and singer who was born on June 8, 1921, in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada.

Her father’s, name is Alexander Smith, and her mother’s name is Gladys Mabel Fitz-Simmons. Her full name is Margaret Alexis Fitzsimmons Smith. There is no information regarding her siblings. Similarly, she belongs to the Scottish-Canadian ethnicity and religion. Her Zodiac sign is Gemini.

She studied at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles. Later, she studied at Los Angeles City College. At Los Angeles College she was scouted by Warner Brother Talent Scout in 1940.

Death

She died at (72 years) on June 9, 1993, the day after her 72nd birthday in Los Angeles, California, the United States due to brain cancer. Alexis Smith had no children; her sole survivor was her husband of 49 years, actor Craig Stevens. Her final film, The Age of Innocence (1993), was released shortly after her death. Her body was cremated and her ashes were dispersed over the Pacific Ocean.

As a theater artist, Alexis Smith is well known to the world for her roles 40s and 50s in the acting industry. She started her career with the short movie Alice in Movieland in 1940.  Her first stage work of her was Private Lives in 1952. Then later she went on to do many stage works. Some of her notable works of her are Bell, Book, and Candle (1953), The Women (1973), Applause (1973), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1979-1980 National Tour), Nymph Errant (1989 Concert), etc.

Other than she has worked in numerous amount of television series throughout her career. Some of the famous television series are The 20th Century Fox House (1956), Bob Hope Special (1972), Nightside (1973), Numerous episodes and seasons of The Love Boat (1982, 84,85), A Death of California (1985), Dress Grey (1986), Marcus Welby, M.D: A Holiday Affairs (1988), Hothouse (1988), Lola (1990), Cheers (1990), etc.

Moreover, she is a Hollywood film actress who acted in numerous amount of films. Some of her notable films are as follows She Couldn’t Say No, Affectionately Yours (1940), The Smiling Ghost, Steel against the Sky, Drive Bomber (1941), Gentleman Jim (1942), The Constant Nymph (1943),  Rapsody in Blue (1945), Always Together (1947), The Division of Christoper Blake (1948), Split second (1953),  This Feeling Happy (1958), The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976), Tough Guys (1986), and The Age of Innocence (1993 which was released after her death).

Moreover, one of her most notable works came in the 1971 Broadway musical Follies Musical Center centered around of aging showgirl. Her performance was considered exceptional and flawless in music.

Alexis had a successful acting career as a Hollywood actress acting in numerous films, TV series, and stage works. She won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 1972 and Drama Desk Award for outstanding performance in 1971. Moreover, she got a nomination as an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series by Primetime Emmy in 1990 for the movie Cheers and Best Supporting Actress for The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane by Saturn Awards in 1978.

Alexis Smith is a straight and married actor Craig Stevens in 1944. However, even though their 49 years of marriage, they didn’t have a single child. Other than that there is no information regarding past affairs. She loves to dance and act from a very young age. Moreover, she was a trained dancer, and ballet lessons even won a dance competition.

She was a humble and free-spirited person. She doesn’t seem to like to be involved in controversy and rather focuses on her career.
