Later Besselman left the band and another new guitarist Matt Smith was introduced In 1983 they introduced their group with the name Paris 1983. Before moving to Los Angeles in early 1984 they performed in several Venues.
The Group decided to change the name from Paris to Poison and started to perform regularly in the Sunset Boulevard scene. Even after working so hard, they had not achieved success and Smith was so frustrated that he left the group. However Brooklyn-based guitarist C.C. DeVille was replaced and became close to Michaels. They got to work with Engima Record and released their first album named Look What the Cat Dragged In. Similarly, Poison appeared as the greatest glam metal band in the world and released the greatest glam metal bands in the world. Additionally, DeVille left the group due to the growing conflict between them. And later replaced by a guitarist named Richie Kotze.

In 1998 Michaels started his solo career. A Letter from Death Row was his fort able, which created a soundtrack for the film of the same name. He has released several studio albums Like Freedom of Sound, Jammin, Friends, Show Me Your Hits, Rock My World, True Grit, Blues & Stories, Country Demos’nd Bret Michaels: Acoustic Sessions’ in 2008.
