Peter Erskine’s professional music career began in 1972 with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. After four years at Kenton, he joined Maynard Ferguson for two years.
In 1978, he joined Weather Report and collaborated with Jaco Pastorius in the rhythm section. Following four years and five albums with Weather Report and the Jaco Pastorius big band Word of Mouth, he joined Steps Ahead.
In 1983, he appeared on the Antilles Records album Swingrass ’83. In 1992, he toured the United States with Chick-Corea. Moreover, he is a musician who also teaches at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.

He appeared on Kate Bush’s 2005 album Aerial, where he collaborated with bassist Eberhard Weber. Erskine has performed with Diana Krall, Eliane Elias, Queen Latifah, and Linda Ronstadt, as well as Scottish and Finnish classical orchestras. In 2011, he performed in the new opera Anna Nicole at the Royal Opera House in London.
In addition to his experience as a sideman, Erskine has produced many solo recordings and led his groups. He is known for his technical skill, originality, and adaptability to many musical forms.
