In 2003, Stiehm created the CBS crime thriller “Cold Case,” which follows a female homicide detective who specializes in “cold cases,” or unsolved homicides dating back to the 1910s. The presentation addressed a wide range of themes in twentieth-century American history, including sexism, racism, homophobia, antiwar action, and police brutality.

In 2004, she was one of five female showrunners at CBS, the youngest at 35. Moreover, she stated that on the first day of shooting, she was mistaken for the lead actress’ stand-in. In 2005, Stiehm said that the show featured more women in senior positions than any other television show. ‘Cold Case’ ended its seven-season run in 2010.

She joined Showtime’s drama “Homeland” as a writer and executive producer in 2011, contributing to multiple episodes during the first two seasons. She was the show’s only female writer. Moreover, she received an Emmy Award for Best Series for ‘Homeland.’

However, she departed from ‘Homeland’ due to creative differences with her co-producer after one season. But, she again returned to ‘Homeland’ after a while and remained for Seasons 3, 4, and 5. She developed the FX series “The Bridge” with Elwood Reid. The series is based on the Danish/Swedish series The Bridge.
