That same year, he acted opposite Drew Barrymore in Woody Allen’s romantic comedy “Everyone Says I Love You,” as well as with Woody Harrelson in “The People vs. Larry Flint.”
In the 1998 film “American History X” he portrayed Derek Vinyard. The next year, he was cast along with Brad Pitt in David Fincher’s “Fight Club.” In the year 2000, he made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy “Keeping the Faith” and also played a supporting role.

Norton then starred opposite Anthony Hopkins in “Red Dragon” (2002), a prequel to the 1991 smash ‘Silence of the Lambs.’ He also appears in Spike Lee’s film “25th Hour” (2002). In 2002, he earned an Obie Award for his portrayal in Lanford Wilson’s “Burn This.”
