Vincent Carter is a former professional basketball player and basketball analyst from the United States. Currently, Vincent Carter serves as a basketball analyst for YES Network and formerly ESPN.
Early Life
Vincent Carter was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, the United States, on January 26, 1977. Currently, he is 47 years old and has a birth sign of Aquarius. His full name is Vincent Lamar Carter Jr. and holds American citizenship. Moreover, he belongs to the African-American ethnicity and practices the Christian religion.

He was born to his parents Vince Carter Sr. and Michelle Carter. When he was just seven years old, his parents got divorced and his mother remarried Harry Robinson, a school teacher. In addition, he was raised with his siblings; Vince Carter, Jeff Scott, Alicia Scott, and Chris Carter.
Vincent Carter – Education
He attended Campbell Junior High School and started playing for the school’s varsity basketball team as a starter in seventh grade. Later, he went to Mainland High School in Daytona Beach where he played alto, baritone, and tenor saxophone in the marching band, led the band as drum major, as well as wrote the school’s homecoming song.
Additionally, he became the captain of the school’s volleyball team, led its basketball team to the 1994-95 Florida Class 6A championship, and was a 1995 McDonald’s All-American. Following his high school graduation in 1995, he accepted a basketball scholarship at the University of North Carolina.
He was a member of coach Guthridge’s ‘Six Starters’ system and helped his team win consecutive ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament crowns, as well as two NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances. He declared for the NBA draft in 1998 but completed his education at North Carolina, where he earned a degree in African-American studies in August 2000.
Professional Career
Toronto Raptors
Vince Carter was selected fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1998 but was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he won the ‘NBA Rookie of the Year Award’ with an 18.3-point average. He averaged 25.7 points during the following season and rose to prominence after leading the squad to their first playoff appearance in 2000.
In the 2000-01 season, he set a career-best with 27.6 points and helped his club win its first playoff series, advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals on the strength of a 47-win record. He received a six-year contract extension in 2001, but missed the final 22 games of the 2001-02 season owing to injury, earning him the nickname ‘fragile player’.

Following the December 2001 game against the Denver Nuggets, he became the second player, after Charles Barkley, to have more than 40 points, rebounds, five steals, and five assists. He missed the 2002 NBA Playoffs due to an injury and had surgery off-season, although he only played 43 and 73 games the next two seasons.
New Jersey Nets
Carter, dissatisfied with the Raptors’ management, requested a trade during the 2004-05 season and was traded to the New Jersey Nets on December 17, 2004. He played for the Nets for five seasons, including four complete seasons when he missed only 11 games and assisted the team to three consecutive playoff runs from 2005 to 2007.
He became the Nets’ captain in 2007-08 and, with teammate Devin Harris, became the league’s highest-scoring starting backcourt the following season. On November 21, 2008, he wrote the team’s comeback victory over the Toronto Raptors, which came after falling behind 18 points.
Orlando Magic
He was dealt to the Orlando Magic on June 25, 2009, and helped the team go to the Eastern Conference Finals in February 2010, but failed to win the championship. In the 2010-11 season, he was acquired by the Phoenix Suns in a six-player deal, although he only remained for a short time, averaging 13.5 points per game in 51 games.
Dallas Mavericks
His next team was the Dallas Mavericks, where he signed a three-year contract on December 12, 2011. During his stay there, he became known for his 3-point shooting.
Memphis Grizzlies
On July 12, 2014, he signed a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he received the ‘Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award’ for the 2015-16 season. On November 1, 2016, he became the 24th player in NBA history to score more than 24,000 points. In 2017, at the age of 40, he set an NBA record by hitting six triples in one game.
Sacramento Kings
In July 2017, he signed a one-year contract with the Sacramento Kings, and the NBA Players Association awarded him the Most Influential Veteran at the Players Voice Awards in August.
He scored a season-high 24 points in a 109–95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. On January 28, 2018, against the San Antonio Spurs, Carter and Manu Ginóbili scored 21 and 15 points, respectively; it was the first game in NBA history when two players over the age of 40 each scored at least 15 points.
Atlanta Hawks
On August 24, 2018, he joined the Atlanta Hawks. Moreover, on November 21, he scored 14 points off the bench in a 124-108 defeat to the Toronto Raptors, making him the 22nd player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points. On March 4, he scored 21 points, all on 3-pointers, in a 114-113 loss over the Miami Heat.
He overtook Reggie Miller for 20th on the all-time scoring list, passed Jamal Crawford for sixth on the all-time 3-point field goal list, became the oldest player to hit seven 3-pointers, and broke his record of scoring 20+ points in a game at 42 years old.
Carter re-signed with the Hawks on September 20, 2019, and his 22nd season began on October 24, 2019, with his first game. On December 10, 2019, he became the fifth player in NBA history to reach 1,500 games.
He became the only player in NBA history to play in four separate decades on January 4, 2020, when he defeated the Indiana Pacers 116-111. On June 25, 2020, he officially announced his retirement from the NBA.

After he retired from basketball, he started working as a sports analyst. Presently, he serves as a basketball analyst for YES Network and formerly ESPN. He currently works as an alternate Studio Analyst for the NBA on TNT.
International Career
Carter guided the US team to a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He was named to the USA team for the 2003 FIBA Americas Tournament in place of Kobe Bryant. However, he had to give up his career due to injury and marriage.

During his professional career, he won the ‘NBA Rookie of the Year Award’ in 1999. And, he was named to the NBA All-Star team eight times between 2000 and 2007. Similarly, he won the ‘Twyman–Stokes Teammate of the Year Award’ in the year 2016.
